A Christmas Bear Scene! From The Bear Man!

Wanted to share my Christmas bear scene! It keeps growing each year! This year, Purplemoon (aka Karen) sent me the 2 golden bears making the snowman! (How did she know I like bears? Hee hee!) What a nice surprise! Thank you, Karen!!!!! This weekend, I found the little green shrubs at a local, small-town, thrift shop for 50 cents a piece! ENJOY my Christmas bear scene! Have a Beary, Merry Christmas! Kirk

Oh...how cute! The 3 on the toboggan are adorable! Well...actually...they all are!! Love that little fisherman too!

That's so cool! I know, easy for me to say, I don't have a bear in my backyard. LOL. For the most part, they are herbivorous, but when nuts and berries aren't plentiful they are opportunistic and will raid bird feeders, trash cans and whatever else they find easy and tasty.I don't think fish are a staple of a black bear's diet, but a convenient waterhole and easy to catch fish might be tempting. I'd use the golf club to bang on pots & pans as soon as I spotted him, or maybe a motion sensor to trigger loud sounds like an alarm to frighten him off. Linda

We live in an area with many bears, make sure your ground is working. Make sure your charger is as strong as a plug in one. You can bait the fence with a piece of tinfoil crunched up with sardine juice. They lick it with their tongue (only that and nose is sensiive as they have a good coat). They won't come back if the charge is truly good. Don't leave unnecesary supplies, sugarwater, scraped brood etc etc etc out. Don't leave compost, pet food, garbage etc around. It's a heck of a lot easier than fighting them. I was recently told that chicken wire/mesh layed on the ground around the pen will allow an even better grounding, when predators step on it. Don't have the bears shot, they are just doing what is natural- easy food source. Make it harder than the wild berries.

Josh: I don't even know which one to pick? I love them ALL Josh..I think that your weather is very "moss" friendly compared to mine..:(:).. I only wish we had moss like that around here.. Thank God no though..You would of had me on another journey to another addiction..lol I would spend the whole year looking for moss through caves, mountains, along streams, people's yards, the forest and so on... I love that last picture..My goodness.The next time I take a ride to the top of Mt. Washington, I will remember to take some nice pictures for you.. Is sorbitol the sugar free ingredient in these bears then? I didn't look them up, but I've avoided candy or things containing sorbitol for years, discovered the issue the hard way with sugar free mints. Briefly, I'm sure no one wants all the details but they involve mega GAS, and cramps. Another time it was chewable sugar free Vit C tabs. Now I read labels but basically avoid any sugar free, sugar substitute products completely. If having a soda, candy, I have just a little of the real thing, otherwise none at all.

Kirk, I have to say my favorite in your Bear Village is the little black bear who's made himself a SNOW-bear. That is just too cute.

SusieHOHO, you keep me laughing too. Its impossible to read one of your post and not start grinning. LOL

Thanks everyone! We've only been collecting these a few years, and it's always fun to find or receive a new one. It's fun too taking them out of the box each year and setting them up! Goldenpond, a bear making a snow bear angel would be so neat! Now, I'll have to keep my eye out for one! Beary Christmas! Kirk

From one bear lover to another, I've gotta say that it's unBEARably cute! I've got alot of little bears, but I never thought to do something like that. I always buy a new one when we go to Wisconsin each summer. Very nice scene, Kirk!

I just love black bears! Except the time when I was little and my parents told us kids to pile into the back of the family station wagon. What they failed to tell us was there was a 550+ pound black bear in the back of the car! A friend of my dad's killed it and it was gutted and sprawled out in the back of the station wagon. We kept screaming that it was still alive (steam was coming out of its mouth) and that it was moving. Even the family dog, a big dachshund who wasn't afraid of much of anything jumped in the front seat when he saw the bear. And people wonder why I'm so weird!

Kirk & Carol - Love your bears!!! They are all cute...I love snowmen...and have some ice fishermen & skaters & skiers...but I have this little ol' "Northwoods" collection on my grandmother's treadle sewing machine in our LR...we've gone to MN the last 40 years for summer vacation...so we feel it's a part of us! Merry Christmas GJ friends! Love this site! Jeanne S.

Jeanne, that little northwood's scene is just delightful.
I love how you set it up, and on the old antique sewing table which is really a wonderful piece!

Kirk, now you have your Bear Village started so well this year, you need to put on your thinking cap for NEXT year.
LOL. As creative as you are, I bet you can make or find some really cool stuff to enhance your bear scene. What fun huh? They need lots of trees, LOL, and maybe some friends of a few tiny critters in their village? Hmmm, how can you make a Xmasy looking bear cave for them?
