Schefflera- leaves turning black and dropping
Comments (15)My one was outside my girlfriends house in a tiny pot, in full sun and sometimes went without water. The stalks were long and widespread, the leaves had yellow streaks. There was hardly any soil anymore, just roots. It was tall but the leaves were few, a sign to me of a plant needing a new environment, or a bigger pot. We moved house and I moved the plant inside, and into a much bigger pot. I also trimmed about 6 of the longest stalks off. I watered her slowly, trying not to over water it. The leaves fell off and the plant kinda went into hibernation while it was adapting to it's new environment. About a month later the thing exploded into life as the roots had obviously taken nicely, and now it's in better condition than I've ever seen it. I also believe its good to cut the stalks down now and again (1 or 2 at a time). The leaves started going black too a short while ago, and just falling off (the whole leaf, not jut the tips). I think I was over watering it. So I left it a few days and started watered less frequently. Seems to be doing a lot better now....See MoreMy neighbor is turning his yard into a dump and the other is worse.
Comments (3)I planted Arborvitae trees last year (side yard) and the deer stripped them during the winter. In the back there is a line of mature trees but the junk is still clearly visible. About 30 feet from that line I have mature trees so the area is pretty shaded. Between the deer and the shade I am pretty limited on landscape choices for that area. I am pretty sure one of the neighbors is going to hate the fence. The reason- he usually collects a big pile of weeds and fallen twigs and every once in awhile he sets these on fire right at the property line. Interestingly, he does this late at night, goes into his house and lets it burn through the night. He will have to find another way to get rid of this stuff unless he chooses to set my new fence on fire. Fence permit should be ready today. Waiting for the call....See MoreHow not to turn into an old busy body
Comments (35)As my mother has aged, she's become more verbal about everything. She's never mean spirited and rarely negative but she can dominate the conversation. A few years ago, she thought she had a major health problem and she was imparting all her wisdom -at once - to any grandkids in attendance. We thought her behavior was a bit odd, she was a hyper version of herself. Later we found out she thought she was sick but didn't want to ruin the holiday by mentioning it. Recently the whole family was together, a situation that puts her into overdrive of talking and attention seeking. A sister noticed my mother had a rubber band around wrist and asked why. My mother replied that I had told her she tends to dominate the convo in these situations so she wore a rubber band to remind herself not to do that. I don't even remember telling her that and I hope I said it in the nicest way possible! Now that the visiting family is gone, I noticed she's not wearing the rubber band bracelet. I'd say it served the intended purpose because she was a delight during that visit....See MoreMy twin Scheffleras got a new lease on life...but are going down again
Comments (2)The main trunks look withered and dead. Scratch with your fingernail to see if there's any green underneath. Its an over or underwatering issue, but my guess is over watering. Does the pot have a drainage hole? How do you water them? And how often?...See More- 9 years ago
