draceana stalk base turning dark grey

I have two stalks of all-green draceana planted in the same 6" pot (both are only about 8 leaves wide but 3-4' tall without proper trunks.

One of them is turning very dark at the base since about 3 weeks. I suspect root rot but it doesn't feel mushy to touch. The leaves are still green and upright. The other dracaena is unaffected.

I take care to not overwater them and the soil is rather rich. I had repotted them together a month before because they looked rather silly in their indicidual pots. No i wonder if the roots are too crowded.. Any thoughts?

(New to this forum, hi all, will be starting a number of threads regarding all my plant issues..)
