Raspberries gone wild

newslang

This is my second season of growing a single raspberry bush and I'm noticing that it's sending up new stalks very far away from where I originally planted it in about a two foot radius. This is much further than where I put down mulch so now it's competing with the grass in those areas.

I don't have any problem with this but I want to make sure it's a good way for the plant to grow and will encourage berry production. Should I let these stalks grow or limit the radius of growth?
