Taking the bottoms off your pot will help, but replacing the soil with something better draining would be better than just taking the bottoms off. I can tell your soil looks rather heavy because it's rather dark (I don't see much perlite, if any) and some of the pots appear to have mold growing on top. What potting mix are you using, if you don't mind me asking? Do you know what direction your window faces? 7-8 feet from any window is honestly not enough light. If your window is pretty intense, say a South window, 2-3 feet away would be ideal for a plant that would burn if directly placed in the window; but 7-8 feet is too far away even for a South window. I can tell you the two in the front (with the pink leaves) and the two outer ones in the back (with the purple) require some direct sun and will grow leggy without it. I can't tell what the two in the middle back are or the one up front in the middle to provide you any guidelines on lighting. I think you need to fix your potting mix situation and give them more light if you want them to grow successfully. I know how it is being limited on space, all I have is a Southeast window and I have to keep mine 2-3 feet away during the year and close the blind when the sun reaches its highest point in the Summer (or else they burn). Sometimes you have to work with what you have and adjust accordingly. I don't have the best potting mix in the world either, but I use what I can. It's not as water retentive as a straight out of the bag mix at least. I tried potting plants in Miracle Gro soil before, not knowing it stays wet super long and my plants didn't fair well. Planto

Thanks everyone for the replies! A good thing--the caudex feels normal, not soft. I unpotted the plant and the roots are rotten. :( Even though the surface was a bit dry, the rest of the soil underneath was sopping wet. Recently it's been very humid where I live, and yes, I checked the cachepot and there's a puddle of water in the saucer. Because of the shape of the cachepot, the water's not directly touching the plastic pot, but still. So today I removed much of the soil and dead roots, and it has some good roots left (I guess they're good roots). I planted it in soil mixed with a lot of sand and grit, in a clay pot with no cachepot this time. I hope I didn't stress the plant too badly by repotting? I seriously should've done more research and taken better care of my plant. I will also flush it occasionally.

where are you why is the greenhouse not open ... that it traps so much heat .. and why do you need so much humidity???? .. are you winging it here.. or is there some theory behind all this ... do you figure rotting grass adds to the heat build up as it decomposes... plus the gasses it gives off ... it is not uncommon.. in late august.. for plants to lose their oldest .. first.. leaves ... and that would be normal .... ken

My Aji Limons started to get yellow leaves and started to drop them a couple of weeks back as well. I had them in a greenhouse. We had been experiencing some darn cool nights, yes the greenhouse helped but??? So, once we got rid of the cool nights, I brought them out of the greenhouse to expose them to more direct sun, and juiced them with some fertilizer. Seems to have helped. No other variety was reacting like they were, personally I think the fertilizer fixed the problem.
