worm on apple id needed, pics

Greetings entomological enthusiasts: while glassing over the apple trees this afternoon I found one of these little buggers. It is 1 cm long. Starting behind it's head and counting toward the rear end are 3 legged segments, then 2 legless and lastly, 4 legged segments. All segments have only 1 leg on each side (total of 2 legs/segment). Any ideas are appreciated.

This shows a hole in the stem just below the growing point adjacent to where the worm had set up shop. To the right of the hole is the leaf petiole stub from which the worm containing leaf was removed.
