direct sun requirements - help me place things...

my lot faces east-west.

There are ~15' lilacs at the east (back of lot) and the house at the west. The garden lies between - lets say a total of 30'. Lets talk 3 beds....one next to the house, one next to the lilacs, one smack in the middle.

Which gets the best (most, strongest) direct sun? and the "best" one for "heat lover" plants? Is it the middle one - the one getting most afternoon sun (lilacs) or is it all the same?

Plants requiring less sun/more shade frequently note shade in afternoon, so I'm guess that that is hotter for them?

Thoughts and opinions, sources appreciated.
