An update. Zucchini, carrot, lettuce, parsnip, climbing bean and French bean seedlings all being skeletonized. Out again tonight at 2300hrs with a fresh Pyrethrum spray mixture. The zucchini leaves you could hardly see for the earwigs. All the other plants, occasional earwigs until you gave a puff of spray - then you could see swarms of them. Maybe they do some good but this is the killing season!! Remember, a quick visual inspection at night may not reveal the true extent of infestation. In some places the garden edge boards are two or more high. Every join, gap etc when sprayed showed thousands of earwigs. I do not like spraying and I will try the cooking oil/fish sauce in ground traps - if there is anything left.

Hi Squirelette. Good to hear you are not swimming yet! Talked to the town water foreman today -helives across from me. He said we've had 8" of rain in the last week and that many people in Ponoka have flooded basements. Those with sump pumps hooked up to the sewer line are creating havoc with are water treatment plant as overloading the system. The river is dangerously close to flooding. I've pumped about 100 gals out of my pond again today and checked the pump box--was dry thank goodness. Am just going to go pull up part of my dricore flooring in the basement as can hear the water underneath it. I had to shake out the pear tree near my pond today as the branches were bending with all the water. It's currently stopped raining. The water guy said we've got enough rain now to last us till the end of summer. I said what summer! Hope your hubby is feeling better. I have a job lined up--not what I want to do but it's work. Will be working with autistic youth in a group home. I am oh so done with this kind of work but it's better than having no income and I'll just keep looking for something else. Take care. Patti

there you go. if water did not run off, the seeds did not either. and getting a good soak just ahead of germination is always the best thing that can happen.

Are you planting already? I was worried we would get a few more frosty nights! I did go and sprinkle alfalfa meal around my roses and worked them into the soil for the rain to start working on, but i haven't had the courage to plant yet! Along one pathway, I ripped out some old woody lavender and need to replace them. Along a low stone wall, I had a daphne and an abuliton die, so I need to replace them, and i was thinking of just redoing that bed this year. So lots to plan and lots to plant! KC
