Water, water evrerywhere but I sure don't want to drink it.
Comments (6)The Almanac is calling for a colder, snowier winter, at least in my neck of the woods. I'm so happy for the very cool, clear, sunny days we've had for the last week, I'm almost giddy. George, my fingers are crossed that the dike and sandbags around the sewage plant will hold and that the rest of the area won't experience too much damage. Mother Nature has shown her power In all parts of the U.S., this summer....See MoreTransplanting Hint: Water Water Water
Comments (1)Sometimes it helps to 'downsize' the amount of foliage to reduce the number of leaves all breathing out water vapour. If the root mass is smaller than the foliage on top it can be a losing battle to keep the leaves turgid on hot/windy days. Definitely shading and a windbreak. Even something as unaesthetically pleasing as old net curtains or an ancient and dampened sheet draped over a sturdy frame can make the difference....See MoreWater, water everywhere
Comments (7)Anneliese, sorry to hear of your water problem. We don't have a shop-vac, so would be in big trouble, if we had a leak. Heck, the main cut off valve for our villa is at the front end of the house. That means one accesses the crawl space from the back yard, crouches or crawls at least 50 ' and finally gets to the main valve from the street. Someone didn't factor in 80 year old bodies doing that, I reckon! Hope your carpet dries! We had snow, too, but only about 3", but more is supposedly on the way by Sunday night. Anyway, h...See Morehard water/water softener spots
Comments (0)We remodeled our bathroom, completing it in April. We bought brushed nickel faucets, and already, they are covered in spots that I cannot seem to remove. We do have hard water, but use a water softener so I can't be sure if its due to hard water or softened water. In any case, these fixtures are basically new and they look terrible. My chrome fixtures in our other bathroom look pretty bad from spotting too. I did read an old thread about things to use, (Flitz cleaner and polisher for one) If and when I manage to clean the spots off, I'd like to coat the faucet with something that will repel the water so it doesn't just get spotted all over again. Can I use a product like rainex to accomplish this? I worry about damaging the finish, I don't want to make it even worse. It just frustrates me to no end that in such a short time, these fixtures look so crappy. Would rainex work? Or is there something better? How about a simple paste wax that you use to wax cars?...See Moreasleep_in_the_garden
