Moving House, Moving Garden

My husband and I had to move to a new apartment about a month after I finally established my vegetable garden. What a pain! I'm so annoyed, let me tell you. But our new place is certainly nicer, and I have a lovely spot in the back for a new veggie bed.

I was hoping those of you with more experience could give me some tips on moving large-ish vegetable plants. (I don't expect much at the end of the season, but if I could get a few seeds for next year I would be happy. I'm a skinflint!)

I have two knee-high tomatoes, a dozen sweet and hot peppers, potatoes, and a few vine crops like melons and cukes. Everything is still quite small. What worries me most is the asparagus. I know I should wait until dormancy to move them, but I'm worried about what our former landlord might do to them...

Thanks for your help!
