Apple cross-pollination--what works?

After searching the site I've learned that you need another variety of apple to cross-pollinate your tree, and also that crabapples can serve to do that.

I was considering planting a dwarf Honeycrisp, and have room only for one. There are lots of crabapples in close proximity, and also there are a couple very old apple trees (left over from the area's farm days) within 2-3 blocks but on the other side of the creek ravine.

Would you take the chance that the crabs and/or old trees would successfully pollinate a lone Honeycrisp?

The sources (like catalogs) that list cross-pol varieties that I've seen only talk about the cultivars they sell. Is there a site that has more generic info?
