Tufa in the desert...cracks or no cracks

I'll be making my winter trek to the desert in October, and as usual, I'll be making lots of tufa projects down there. Is there anyone out there who is used to making hypertufa in the dry desert environment. I make lots of tufa in the northwest and never have a crack, but it sometimes happen in the desert. Is there a surefire way that I can add something to prevent a crack down the road. I sell many of my projects and don't want them to experience a crack. Like I said before, it only happens in the desert, so I know it's the dry environment. Any experts out there?
