Grape Koolaid to repel birds

Im conjuring up some ideas for preventing birds from eating my blueberries and blackberries. I came across some idea that by spraying grape koolaid on the fruit after it has turned colors will repel birds. The study was done by the University of Massachusetts. I was really looking for ideas on netting and have seen different designs I like. I do prefer this method if its works. The recipe was 4 packets of koolaid for every gallon of water. It would wash off with rain but can easily be applied, plus its cheap. Anyone tried this?
