An update: My plants are finally beginning to fruit! Some things have changed since I last posted... - It has been slightly cooler lately (mid-high 80's most days) - I started treating the plants like "weeds", stopped watering them, the only water they get now is from rain. - It seems like bees are starting to take more notice of them. Up until the last few days, I had never seen a single bee come up to them (I've sat and watched multiple times). But for some reason lately, there are bees pollinating them almost every time I look! In my experience it is typical for tomatillos to put off fruiting until late in the season, then they suddenly get loaded with fruit. Empty husks will form first. Then fruit will grow inside the husks. I would not give up on them. Jim

I thought they had more of a tomatoey taste. I've never eaten one. It died. I guess it got too cold in the greenhouse. I will try again in the spring. I just read about them in a new book I got from the University of Florida bookstore. The book is called Minor Vegetables. What a cool book. It's about all the veggies we can plant in Florida that are not commercially grown. So many I had never heard of! Tomatillo was in there and also Malabar Spinach. I can hardly wait until next pring! In the meantime I will be looking for seeds for the many unusual veggies I read about. How do you use the tomatillo? Just for sauces?
