Good morning. It's already 72 degrees here and heading up to 85. Sunny, too! Welcome, Dody and Groomingal! This is a great place to come for support, for weight loss and other things. I'm heading out in a few minutes to do my weekly grocery shopping. I keep a running list all week on my computer, so that by Friday morning, I'm ready to print it and go. I never used to be quite this organized until I started on Weight Watchers this time. It really keeps me in line to know exactly what there is to fix and eat. I'm still cooking every evening, and so far, most of the recent attempts have been successful! QOD: No plans so far. We did so much running around last weekend, and hubby is taking it easy this week but still going in to work after having a heart cath on Monday. So, he'll probably just want to lie around and watch tv. Thanks for the good thoughts for Aubrie. I'm really proud of my Dson and DDIL for remaining so calm about things so far. That's also the reason I was so happy to keep the girls for them Easter weekend while they go visit my other son and DDIL for a nice distraction. And, it has nothing to do with the fact that I LOVE being with my granddaughters! LOL McPeg, I had cabin fever yesterday, too. It was very overcast here and it just made me feel so gloomy. I'm thankful for the sun today! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Good morning goils-- Yes, I am among the living, and have missed you all like crazy!!! I have finally gotten a computer for me at home (I can't log on at work, and trying to get to the library is close to impossible!)So, I get to check my emails, and play on here to my heart's content-- Life is good, but so swamped. The company that I work for is a division of a larger corp, and the women that started it are wanting to separate from the main company and run it themselves. Since I am the financial guru, I've been putting in 80 hours weeks since January, and there is no end in sight. I am in the interviewing process for software vendors/tech support, and I am in over my head on this, as I am so not good with computers. However, since the accounting/HR software will make or break my working life, I want to be in on the discussions. One of the CPAs is giving me a fit, but apparently she was like this to my predecessor (which was a big factor in her leaving), but I just won't take it and roll over. We spent an hour on the phone yesterday day about something she screwed up with our AP, which resulted in us almost getting a utility cut-off in one of our group homes. My boss told me to put the bills on the company credit card because we didn't have much choice, and I did (I paid the bill through our weekly AP; corp screwed up the payment; we don't know where the check actually went to; and the utility was due to be shut off on this past Monday. I never heard a peep from corp until yesterday morning (Thursday) when she called b!tching that she has spent all of this time (?? wtf?)working on this issue, and then found out that I had put it on a CC. Alrighy, the the games begin....) I'll be glad to get rid of that insufferable cow. I'm still auctioning; we have one tomorrow. It's huge, but I'm tired, and not looking forward to it. Well, kinda--I just know it's going to be a loooong day. Well, I've lost 15 pounds since the beginning of February, and I am down about 25 pounds from my highest known weight. I bought a pair of jeans last fall that fit a bit loose, but now I can pull them down over my hips without unzipping 'em. My BIL is getting married on Memorial Day weekend (well, the last I heard), and I want to be down about 15 more pounds. (I'm trying to be realistic here). Let's see--I am trying to buy a car. Good Grief. What happened to car prices? I haven't bought one since '96 (Rog got the truck in '01), but geeze louise--10 years car loans? Why?! I'm looking at a used Camry because I want to pay cash (I hate car payments wit ha passion), but I just laugh at some of the prices. (No, I don't want to buy the real estate that the lot is on, I just want to buy a car.) I may have found one, but it's white (which is the one color I specifically did not want), and with this work schedule, I can't get up to the dealer to see it. Rog's cousin owns a dealership (yep--more $$$ than above, and a nice guy to boot), but for some inane, really stupid reason, hubster doesn't want to go to him. (It was OK to see cousin when *he* wanted the truck, but ohhhhnooooo, we can't go when *I* want a car. Go figure.) Hope this finds everyone well--happy birthday Patti! aliceinwonderland, Yes, I know about drinking grape juice. My mother was Italian and when we didn't drink a glass of red wine, we drank grape juice before anything else with our meals. So I have had a great share of delicious grape juice throughout my life. In fact I would have never thought my mother and my father would ever die of disease, because my mother made wonderful, healthy meals, hardly ever going out to eat, and hating fast food. So I know their disease came from other things around them. Since I want to be healthy for my family I try and find bad things to avoid and additional good things to take, to help me with the war against disease. I mainly drink filtered water, green and oolong teas with cinnamon sticks, apple cider with cinnamon sticks, pomegranate and grape juice. But thank you so much for recommending grape juice, for everyone else it is a great juice to take as it is a wonderful antioxidant. Now that I have listed all the things I do drink, maybe we can have some comments on what I truly posted on. I only added a small PS about something good I have started to share, yet the rest of this thread was about the huge dangers of fabric softener. Really are people that bent out of shape with a small suggestion of something good to take. Yet not bent of out shape with the idea that our whole society is brainwashed to put fabric softener in their rinse water? Since I see no way of editing my already posted thread, if someone knows how to get this thread off please do. It actually makes me sick with the way people like to point a finger at what another is doing wrong. Since that has become the main issue here. You know, people need to support one another more, take a look at the "March of the Penguins" movie, do you know how all those penguins survived deaths cold, where no other life has learnt to survive? Well they each take turns blocking the dead cold wind from each others backs. The inner circle of penguins were never told by the outer circle, hey youre getting something were not, because they know, their time will come when they would be in the inner circle getting warmed, and those that were warm would be in the outer circle once again. See our world is just a bunch of fighting seagulls instead; just looking to make sure that the seagull beside them doesnt get the extra scrap of food. It is really really sad, how people can only find the negative to comment about. If I didnt know the dangers of fabric softener, and came here and read this, I would just be glad someone came and posted it. Not say, oh look they added a small PS about a health drink, so they are just thinking about their own self profit. My true intention was to help bring awareness of a bigger problem as my heart aches with the ignorance of peoples ingestion of poison, and the growing number of deaths among our loved ones. My mother, father-in-law and mother-in-law all passed on within 22 months of each other, all with sudden quick growing cancers, if it can happen to them, it can happen to any of us. It all has to do with the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the things our bodies ingest from the chemicals around us. Things like the huge ongoing use of fabric softener. I found this laundry site through a Google search. I have been posting for a few weeks now, and have never added a PS before. Yet like I have already posted I just couldnt handle watching the fabric softener going so quickly at work, without trying to say something to someone, and since I knew about this laundry forum I thought of added a thread of friendly warning. Yet I cant believe I have to keep writing a truce about my small PS of a health drink, as I just wanted to include about something good I knew about too. When I went on the thread about Charlies Soap, it was a plug of something good, how come no one is upset that they are making sales because of that. I just dont understand people. Happy Easter! Just returned from the east coast at midnight, so we're jet laggin' around. The Easter bunny came this morning and we've been eating eggs all day. No peeps in the house, but the malted eggs called to me, so I made myself a deal to stick to one color only---I ate some white ones---but I got sick of them quickly! My east coast visit was so fun---everyone was SO nice everywhere we traveled. We had a blast in Salem with Besh and her husband----it was not a mild night! lol. The two of them had us laughing and their stories were hilarious! Besh is delightfully charming and has a great sense of humor and I love her style! She has wonderfully expressive eyes and a flawless complexion. (I'm jealous.) Her husband's and her way of telling stories kept us entertained all night long and the place we met at was comfy and full of local color, including a gal dressed like TinkerBell that turned our husbands into rubbernecks! Ha! We loved Salem and picked up the usual tourist stuff: bumper stickers that said "My Other Car Is A Broom" and "Magic Happens" and such. Besh and her husband gave us a wonderful route alternative to Glocester and Rocky Point and the drive was full of small towns and historical architecture---just right! OH! I'll send Marci the pics soon! Further down the coast, we stopped by Mysic Pizza and got a pic of me under the sign; picked up a bumper sticker that reads: "Have You Had A Hot Piece Today? Mystic Pizza." and had a wonderful salad and 'a slice of heaven!' Great people. Drove on to New London and then took the car ferry to Orient Point - one of my favortie places in the WORLD! We stayed at an old inn there and the innkeeper was a nice older lady; a wealth of information. We had dinner at The Fifth Season and it was one of the best meals I've ever had! Lovely restaurant---YUM! We drove all over the place and then headed to Newark airport- how confusing is that place? YIIIIII! The little vacation was just what the doc ordered for DH and me and my girl friend took perfect care of my kids. Nothing was amiss upon my return; it was SO NICE! Anyway, we're back and so I will print, read, catch up, and post again tomorrow. I have a TON of laundry to do--I told my gal pal NOT to do laundry! I gotta do grocery shopping, etc. We are having ravioli and some tomato sauce for dinner and RELAXING the jet lag away..... Tikanas, your meal sounds delish! Hope it's peaceful and everything you wish for! Lynn, my thoughts are with you and your family. Watching parents grow old is very worrisome and touches the heart in a different way---sort of sad. I hope your father mends and gets back into the swing of things soon. (((((((HUGGLES))))))))) Joy to the world!

Beautiful pictures! The only plants blooming at my house are the Crown of Thorns and lipstick plant that I posted pictures of last month. I agree with Linda, that yellow epi is gorgeous! Do you know the name of that one?

Rina, I love that passion flower picture too! I have never tried to grow one, might have to see if I can find it.

I do have a little green showing up outside. Tulips and daffodils are just starting to poke their little heads out of the ground. I am so HAPPY that spring is in the air!

Mike, your March blooms are so very pretty. I LOVE your variegated Citrus. My favorite among all your other beautiful plants.

Mike, that Epi is to die for..The flower looks large..Is it? Wowee!

Rina, beautiful Passion Flower. How did you get your Passion Vine to bloom? Do you prune stems a certain time of year? Think flowers grow off new wood, right? I'm not certain. Read it somewhere, long ago.

Josh, is that the same COT's you posted a couple weeks back?

Mark, all your Aeschynanthus are beautiful, but my favoite is S. Playful Spectrum. Flower colors are amazing.
Is PS, Standard or Large AV?

Toni,

Playful Spectrum is a standard that was hybridized by Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses. It is unregistered because the blooms are highly variable. Some will be nearly entirely white, others almost completely pink with purple fantasy and no white, and others will be like those in my picture. It's behaving this month, but doesn't always.

It keeps producing new blooms all Winter long, just like my other Euphorbia, a beharensis var. guillemetii.
This one has much more prominent cyathia, however! A nice, simple yellow.

the passion flower is from the cutting I got originally 3yrs. ago - first yr. it grew so big, I had to cut it down. Luckily I took 2 cuttings, because original went to plant heaven. Now I have 2 of them - large - again, & took another cutting that is growing. Do not have name. They bloom on new wood, right now there is at least 9 buds on either of them. I didn't prune at all. I need to figure out somekind of trellis, since they are so vigorous, maybe a topiary form would be good...I would gladly give you rooted cutting, but I live in Canada, don't think could send it? I keep them outside in summer.

I'm jealous of all of you-- ;) the only thing i have is my Bromelaid. It gives me one flower about a week now, a few days ago there were 2, i wish they would last longer than 2 days, they are so pretty in bloom.

Mark...Thank You! It's been several years since ordering AV's. I forgot about Lyndon Lyons.

I had PS, among other AVs, but last winter, after finding Mealy, attempting to rid them, unsuccessfully, I threw all but two AV's out. Hard to do since one trailer was from seed, others were purchased in 2004 and 2006.

I purchased a beautiful, purple leaf PV some time back. However, I am disappointed. It's basically a cutting, arrived w/one leaf on a four inch stem. The leaf dropped during shipping, so all that's left is a stem..lol.
You never know what you get when you order from 'X' nursery..sometimes plants are a little larger, and well-rooted, other times.............

Is your PV staked? Seems flower stem would lean without being attached.

Lamora, unless your Bromiliad bloom is old, the flower should last for months.
When you posted a pic of your Brom, last week, the flower looked fresh/young.

Broms don't need as much water as they do spraying foliage. 'Without water hitting blooms.' I consider Broms Tropical-Succulents, sort of like passive-aggressive. lol.

Emarald, stunning amarillos! The ones the neighbors have planted in their yards are coming up, but I think they look their best in a pot all by themselves. They put on a big enough show!

Had a Phalaenopsis open today.

I wish I knew the registered name of this variety. I know it is registered as I worked at the nursery that sold this orchid and others of the same variety. This one was out of bloom so they gave it to me, but the tag was missing. I can't remember the name of the grower either, just that it was a large outfit from Florida.

No, definitely not. Both Mother of Thousands and 'Fang' are Kalanchoe, not Euphorbia.

I heard they will die unless given temps higher than the eighties and high himdity. I started one and it died. I would love to try another. That is a corpse plane, right?

Wow. it's amazing that you did that since that is not an easy feat! I have a friend who sells them at 'Tindra's Orchids'!

Not much to show except for my orange hibiscus.
I was surprised to find buds on her since she has been
in a north facing window since October end.

I thought she would need brighter light to flowers ( not that I am complaining :)

I bought her from a dept store in July, 2011
kept her well watered, replanted her in fall and brought her in.

I have to confess that she is in a pot with no drainage :( . I was planning to repot in spring.

Thanks Mike,

No spidermites in sight but I am battling an army of fungus gnats ( I have sticky tape all around her)
the Hibiscus, has been surprisingly easy to take care of. the only thing I do regularly is to rotate her every time I water her. The room she is in, gets afternoon sun but none directly on her. Perhaps sitting next to the patio glass door helps.

I enjoy your postings here on GW. I even bought a Stephanotis after seeing a pic of yours but forget flowers, there isnt even a new leaf in sight. :(
