I have a nectarine in a pot that I bought last spring along with a peach and plum. My inconsistent watering and the Texas summer were a bit hard on all 3 trees. The nectarine lost all its leaves by early August and I assumed it was probably a lost cause. Then in early September we had a cold front come through, several nights temps down into the low 60s. Next thing I know the nectarine has little pink buds forming on it. Now 4 weeks later the blossoms seem to be finished and the tree is all leafed out again. Seems totally the wrong time of year but maybe there's nothing to worry about? I'd already given up on the tree a few weeks ago but after all this blooming effort I'll be sad if the tree doesn't survive the winter.

Diversify? Ha! obviously I've never posted many pics of my garden. if plants were countries my yard is the United Nations summit. I've go a lot of space and I love variety, so I host everything that will grow in my zone. I just love how elegant and cheerful the double flowering plum (Prunus triloba 'Multiplex' - 30 year lifespan in ideal conditions so not short lived) looks after a long depressing Canadian winter, and they are usually the first to wake up and bloom so they have a certain amount of instant gratification value. No diseases yet knock on wood.... Oh well, I went outside and hacked it down to half it's size, inspired by my other one that got eaten half to death by rabbits over the winter and came back with a vengence I never knew possible.

I tried bloodmeal, but the rabbit still came back and ate all my trollius golden plant. I just planted it too, and it was about to open its flower I was so excited only to wake up and look through my window and see only the stalks of the plant. I cried, I really do. Plus it is 2 rabbits a big one and a small one.

I guess some of my neighbors feed squirrels as well. I keep finding buried peanuts in my flower beds and pots :o) Some squirrel relocated a lily bulb from the ground into container for me. It was really weird to see Lily blooming in the container with Camelia. "My" squirrels love to dig, but never eat greenery. I also vote for earwigs. Do leaves have round holes? Also rabbits or deer might do this.
