Rabbit Ate my Young Double Flowering Plum

Hi everyone... I hope this is the right forum. I live in Manitoba Canada and have 3 young double flowering plums that are about 18" high. I was disappointed to see after snow melt 3 weeks ago that a rabbit got to them and ate back numerous smaller top branches. The trees still look healthy, are still a fair size, and have buds. But what would you recommend I do right now? Should I prune back the knawed ends? Should I wait until after flowering? Any specific techniques? Sorry I am a dummy when it comes to gardening and not sure what to do. These were my favourite plants int he garden. Next year I will put a cage around them. :(
