A novice's idea/question

Hi, everyone.

I've made two hypertufa planters out of styra coolers 10 years ago which are still holding up, and I learned a lot from the original hypertufa forum a long time ago, but had very little garden space at the time.

Now I have more space, two bigger gardens, and am getting back into it again. I'm amazed at how far the art/craft has come checking back into this forum again.

I've bought 2 brick-edging molds and am slowly getting organized. I love the idea of painting the stone surfaces later--and have a lot of experience with decorative arts.

I have one pressing question: what is your favorite away to make stones that look real, especially those you can step upon.

I was thinking about starting with a duct-taped box mold and arranging some tree branches inside to help make irregular surfaces. And then adding, mortar? This is where I'm not sure how to proceed.

Also, do I need to keep my stepping stones misted and covered for a week?
