I had one that cracked. I put a gob of silicone on my index finger and pushed it into the crack.... it held water for years after that until a tree branch landed on it. I just couldn't throw the base away just because the top was smashed so I have a base to play with. I was thinking the other day how it would be cool to drill holes in the sides of the base and grow annuals in it, like those hanging bags.... or maybe I could stick hens and chicks in there too.

Hi Slow! Late to the party, just wanted to send my regards. I love your yard, and, of course, all of the pretties in it. It has such a nice "vibe", too- I would love to be surrounded by such whimsical creations (not to mention the beautiful flowers and plants). There is a wealth of textures and little things to catch your eye... Once my guys are older (they are 1 and 3 at the moment), I hope to have an English style garden in my little yard (I live in a sort of "city" area, and out yard is very small), but, for the moment I have to keep everything kid proof. :-) I can dream, though- I love your gate, too! LOL!! Yeah, you really have to wonder about how safe that nasty Neem oil really is :-) It has only been used for the last 4500 years to treat a wide variety of medical problems. Not to mention that it is currently used in a whole host of cosmetics, toiletries and dental care products. So I guess 4500 years is not long enough to get a handle on its safety, right? And if it is used for these purposes - shampoos, facial creams, make up, toothpaste and mouthwash - currently available for sale anywhere, it can't be very safe, can it?? The “poisoning' of kids resulted from ingestion of Neem oil, not spraying. I may be way off base here but I'd venture to say that kids ingesting lime sulfur would be in a a world of hurt as well. FYI, it is not recommended to dose kids with Neem oil as it contains aspirin-like properties (one of its medicinal attributes/benefits) that can result in a Reye's syndrome-like ailment that affects the brain and liver and can be fatal, just as feeding plain old aspirin to kids can lead to Reye's syndrome with equally harmful results. But then we know how dangerous aspirin is, right?? I would venture to say the ingestion resulting in the liver damage in children is the result of lack of education and/or current medical knowledge of the parents rather than any child labor exploitation explanations but you go ahead and believe what you want. And Neem oil has been used to treat pets for years with shampoos, sprays, creams and herbal supplements so I guess it is also reasonable to assume it must be harmful to your dog.......right?? byw, the lime sulfur dip you referred to is vastly different both in formulation and application than that used as a fungicidal spray. For one, it it is highly diluted before use and should also be used only under a vet's care. And YOU are instructed to wear protective gear when applying it (very safe, yes??). It is also not used to control insects on animals but rather as an antibacterial and antifungal agent used to control nonspecific dermatitis, mange and ringworm.

I must take issue with Tiffany’s comments. Outdoor cats are not a scourge on the land. They are outdoors because WE put them out there. Why do they get put out? Let me count the ways: 1. WE are too lazy to care for them after we get them. Food, vet bills, litter, toys, OUR attention…….WE decide it’s all too much. WE are too lazy to even surrender them to a rescue…….omg, the gas for driving them there! So WE just put them out. 2. WE don’t take the time or spend the money to get their them their vaccinations AND most importantly, WE DON’T SPAY OR NEUTER THEM. WE DON’t want to spend the money or some men have sick notions about removing the testicles from a male cat or dog btw, because they personalize it.(of course neutered male cats and dogs will live longer healthier lives because they don’t roam or fight as much AND they have a lower occurrance of testicular cancer which of course they DIE from). Or without proper vaccinations, they get sick and often get disposed of. I don’t mean creamated, I mean thrown in a dumpster to die. 3. So when unspayed female cat sneaks out of the house or WE let her out for a few hours so she can experience her wild nature……..then WE get surprised that she is PG and WE don’t want kitties…….again, instead of taking her to a rescue, WE open the door and let her go…….forever. She can fend for herself, right? WRONG! Indoor domesticated cats have been fed by US so when put out, they must revert to a somewhat wild state to survive, if they do. 4. As a result of number 3, all the kitties are born outside and then they know nothing except what their mother teaches them. If you knew anything about cats, you would understand that cats do not kill for sport, but out of hunger. What looks like playing with their food is actually killing the prey. Pouncing, shaking throwing it the air is all about subduing prey so they are then ableto eat it. This is also how an outdoor mother teaches her kittens to hunt so they can survive outdoors. Birds are a minor part of their diet. They kill far more mice and rats than birds. Really I could go on and on about why there are free roaming cats, but I agree with functionthenlook. Tall buildings with nighttime lights and habitat loss are the top killers of birds. Now if you want to help cut down on the free roaming cat issue in your area, you can do Trap-Neuter-Return. TNR is the only effective and humane way of reducing the free roaming cat population. I have done it in my neighborhood for years. By neutering cats, you stop the reproduction cycle. Many cities have ordinances to pay for the services. Some vets are willing to offer services for free or a nominal feewe. Over time, numbers reduce. Here’s where you can learn more if you want to help rather than complain and make opinionated remarks. Best friends animal society , one of the best organizations in the country working round the clock to end all unnecessary killings by 2025.
