lime on bird-baths?

Good morning!

Last summer even though I had water cured etc. and painted my BB's I still got that nasty white stuff called LIME and it takes quite a bit if shrubbing to remove, some much so that I also removed a little paint in places, ops! This year I want to try and avoid this forever-if possible! (lots of luck you may say lol). I know there has been more disscusion on this subject many times but was wondering if anyone else has ever tried that kitchen bath/sink stuff that you can buy anywhere-that removes lime? I did try it on a EE leaf and it did it's thing turning the liquid in question white and fizzing, just like it would do in a kitchen sink/bathtub. Only let the stuff sit for a few moments then throughly rinsed the leaf in cool water, it didn't appear to harm the 'crete any and it look and felt nice and clean.

Was just wondering if any of you have ever tried this or have comments?
