Lovely patty pans. I have never heard of them before your posts, but they are just so neat I went out and bought a green patty pan called peter pan squash.

I don't know that watermelons would survive growing in my horses paddocks. They love watermelon!

yes, it was out of the little concrete block area laying in the tall grass, plus somethng is killing off all my squash plants, it looks like powdery mildew, any suggestions for fighting that would be great. So I hardly even look at them anymore, plus I had a twin squash today i'll post, its so cute. My mare is Bebe, she is a 5 year old Jc registered thoroughbred, I didnt have any big area for melons, I knew the horse pasture probably wouldnt be a good idea!! If they grow maybe I can just rope them off, they are still so little yet

We also have Thoroughbreds. My family has had them all my life and my dad used to train them, breed them and compete in the jumper circuit before he semi-retired.

She's a 2-yr-old English Shire ... who came home from the trainer with Stable Cough. We've gone through a ton of watermelon hiding her cough med and antibiotic in the rind.

We love Pattypans... next year I'm going to grow every color I can find. This was our first year and we have the bright yellow.

Does Emma sit up and beg? Maybe you could teach her to hold the squash on her legs up close to her chest?!

awesome, she is beautiful!! Fantastic markings on her legs! I cant believe everyones horse eats watermelon!! I threw some out in the yard last year, but they never touched them, then this year I had volunteers where I threw them at the horses last year! No one ever touched them, I thought they would eat them right up, hhmm. They got mowed down, but I thought since they didnt like them I would plant the moon and stars up in the hill that I put all the poops in. Took forever to sprout, I think because we had no rain for 3 weeks after I planted them, but now I have maybe 10 growing, but they are tiny, I will take some pics tomorrow, they are cute because even the foliage is all speckled, just like the melons should be, if I get any. Course the deer and rabbits might get them too, I keep saying, next year, next year, I will do everything right!! someone posted pics on another thread of their harvest, and they have the cutest PP's half yellow and half green, I want them!!

I had good luck keeping it at bay on my peas this spring with a solution of 3 parts water to 1 part milk, using it to mist the leaves. It can be any kind of milk, but apparently people like to use skim so that the fat doesn't turn rancid. I only have 2% on hand, and I haven't noticed it smelling any more or less than a glass of milk left to sit on the counter for half a day. There are also differing opinions on how strong to make it, but 3:1 is the strongest I've seen recommended, and I think 9:1 was the weakest. I use it as a preventative on the squash, who don't seem to mind it one bit.

You can also do a baking soda/water solution, but I can't remember the dilution rate on that one.
