It looks like Datura. If it is, DO NOT eat it as it's poisonous.

Datura is sometimes grown as an annual flowering plant.

Again, all parts of the datura are poisonous from leaf to seed. If you have children or animals you might want to remove it.

Looks like the Datura to me too, they grew as weeds next to my granny's ranch.

It IS Dhatura.All parts are poisonouus.Some people use the black seeds in the globe to smoke to get high.

That actually was my first thought too and I will add that while it isn't a veggie that you can eat...It has a beautiful flower...

As Alberta stated, it is Jinsom weed, a type of Datura and member of the nightshade family. It spreads like wild fire will grow to about 6ft. Around here it is commonly seen in the rich fertile soil around chicken houses, hog parlors and feed lots. does have a pretty flower but not near as pretty as the hybrid Daturas and it multiplies by the thousands each year. I brought some manure from my inlaws barn that hard the seed in it over 10 ears ago and evey year I pull and pull trying to erradicate it from my vegetable garden. here is a link that might be usefull. Jimson Weed is one of the common names for Datura along with Mad Apple, Devil's Trumpet, Angel's Trumpet and Jamestown weed.

The flower is very decorative and readily self seeds. It is considered an invasive weed in some areas and is a problem for farmers who have to clear it from their fields before harvesting crops to avoid contamination.

The plant has been used as a source for several drugs including Scopolamine and Atropine but has also been used improperly as a recreational drug. Apparently the side effects are unpleasant enough that most don't use it more than once.

Yes, Datura. I grow a hybridized version of it in my flower beds, but I don't allow it in my veggie garden since my hubby has problems identifying plants as it is and I don't want him to make a Datura salad.

A friend came to see me last year, bringing along a lady that I did not know. We were touring around the gardens when she darted into my flower bed and yanked out my hummingbird vine stating loudly "oh God, morning glories, they're a terrible weed." I gave her a dirty look and asked her to stay out of my flower beds as she'd just destroyed my hummingbird vine in her ignorance. We weren't 30' further around the yard when she grabbed my datura plant and started yanking, shouting that it was a witchcraft plant used in black magic and that she'd be back tomorrow with white sage to cleanse my yard. She didn't get my datura uprooted and I frog-marched her back to my friend's car and told her never to return.

So, Jimson weed/datura has beautiful flowers. Grow it away from your edibles to prevent confusion. Beware of crazy women who think they are white witches invading your property to purge you of evil weeds and cleanse your spirits with white sage.

I should have guessed. It seems as though I have every type of poisonous plant on this property.

If you noticed, there is also some pokeweed showing in the photo & we have rampant blackberry bushes & poison ivy up the yin-yang.

Guess I have my work cut out for me trying to eradicate this stuff. :(

Ah, pokeweed and poison ivy. Are you sure you don't live in my back yard? lol

Good luck getting rid of them, it's a real chore. Friendly advice, keep a big, big jug of cheap vinegar handy. I find it invaluable for washing up when pulling poison ivy. Others swear by rubbing alcohol.

As for the blackberries. My place had a huge uncontrolled bramble when I moved in. I borrowed an electric hedge clipper and took them down to about 6 inches. A very scratchy chore to be sure (I wore a heavy jean jacket and flannel lined jeans to save myself from the worst of the thorns). But it has made it a lot easier to "train" them.
