I have Christmas cactus. I don't know what kind, but I can email a pic.

Oh no...I will be passing one of these shops on my way upstate tomorrow. Had planned to stop anyway (love their candles, papergoods, etc)and I will have to be very careful not to over do it on the seeds! They also sometimes have good deals on begonia tubers. I bought a wisteria vine last year that was small but grew nicely this past summer. Cheap prices.

The absolute true Christmas cactus that Grandma grew is Schlumbergera x buckleyi. It has rounded leaf segments and tends to bloom in December. The cacti you see offered in the Big Box Stores around this time of year are sold as Christmas cactus but they are actually Schlumbergera x truncata, commonly called Thanksgiving cactus. It has "crab claw" type stem segments and tends to bloom about a month before buckleyi. Its all a marketing thing to sell only truncatas as Christmas cactus when the true Christmas cactus is never offered anymore. People don't want to wait until Christmas to buy, and the name Christmas cactus sells better than Thanksgiving cactus.
