Is there really a tarttarian cherry that is self pollinating??

I just bought my first cherry tree, and of course did some research before I went to the nursery. I know there are fewer self pollinating varieties, and everywhere I looked said black tartarian (which I bought) DID need pollination. When I got to the nursery, I told her I was going to need 2 different varieties since I wanted a tartarian, and she told me that "t doesnt require a pollinator, and most of them here don't actually." I figured maybe she was right since it would have benefited her sales to lead me to believe otherwise! Is there some kind of hybrid maybe that is a self pollinator? Or was she just completely clueless? If I do need a 2nd, will they cause eachother to produce, or does one just use the other's pollin in order to produce, without the other ever fruiting? Also, will the age effect production...the tartarian is more grown than the other varieties, so would that set back the fruiting?
