Pitcher plants do not need to be fed bugs to thrive.. I own 4 Sarracenia's, about 10+ Nepenthes and a handful of sundew plants. I only feed them bugs when i find one in my house wandering around, like a spider or cricket.. Put them on the windowsill with the most sunlight, water with RO or Distilled water ONLY! Tap water will kill them. Sarr's do like it moist, but you don't need to constantly keep them in standing water, the sundews I have are constantly in standing water but sarrs grow good if you thoroughly soak them once a week or so.. I have all of my carnivorous plants pots inside Tupperware type bowls so that when i do water every week the excess can get absorbed back into the soil.. but I never overwater too much to prevent them from getting root rot..(the sundews are a different story as they love to be sitting in constant water)

American pitcher plants, as well as some other cp's require a cold stratification period for the seeds to germinate. That is one method. I have a simple approach. I just fill a plastic cup with soil media and overfill with rain water. Then I add the seeds and place at a window in the cold attic. I just make sure they don't dry out.... and wait. I figure that this appraxinates a cold mud environment and when it warms up and has an increased photoperiod, they will germinate. That's this year's approach. Last year I tried putting the seeds in baggies with water, in a bucket of cold water, in the attic, for the winter. That worked.

Hi petiolaris, Can you describe in detail what your setup is? Based on the photo, I can't tell what type of container that is. It looks very nice though and I'd like to try to replicate something like that for mine and see if it'll help with the Sarracenia's toppling over. Thanks so much.

Thanks, i didn't know they weren't spiders, i thought they were but i looked that up, turns out they aren't. thanks paul. I kill them because i prefer the praying mantis, lol. i dont know, my plants are sometimes hungry and i like to feed them, lol, no i rarely feed my plants. I find my plants more attractive then spiders or daddy longlegs, too. no offense to people that find them more attractive then carnivorous plants, but again i also find praying mantis more attractive then spiders, ill pick one of those up, lol. If they get caught by my plants thats that, its the circle of life twisted a bit. :)
