Anyone tasted Blue Velvet, Blue Moon or Blue Sky honeyberries?

I have ordered 2 Blue Velvet and 1 Blue Moon honeyberry and am really excited at the prospect of fruiting bushes to put in a fairly shady spot. I debated whether to get Blue Velvet (because of large size of berries and reputed good sweet/tart taste), or Blue Sky, which is described as "especially sweet and tasty." Blue Velvet is late-blooming and Blue Sky is early-blooming, so they won't pollinate each other. Burnt Ridge only had Blue Moon to pollinate Blue Velvet by the time I ordered.

Any experience with taste and production of these varieties would be greatly appreciated!

I am in zone 5 in NE Ohio. I ordered 2 blue moon and 2 blue velvet from Burnt Ridge also. Beries Unlimited also have honeyberries. The reason I went with these two varieties is that they are late blooming some we could have some pollinators. I am curious about the taste of the honeyberry. I guess that we will have to wait a year or two to find out.

I have both, Blue moon and Blue velvet and this will be there second season. the first year I got some small TART berries...not bad tart, but tart. I'm hoping they size up some and get a bit sweeter...the birds love em...must be bird crack! .

I'd be cautious about BerriesUnlimited for the 4" honeyberries. I got a couple last year and they were quite small and fragile. They were clinging to life late in the summer and I'm not sure if they made it. I also read about some issues people had with delays. The above applies to the Borealis and Tundra, which I believe they were sourcing externally. The 1gal honeyberry (Midnight Blue) I got from them, which I think they grew themselves, was a quality plant, as are their blueberries. I haven't gotten honeyberries from HoneyberryUsa, but I did get dwarf sour cherries from them two springs ago. They were also small (2x2x4" pots), but have done quite well. I've placed an order with them for a few more, and some honeyberries, for this spring.

I have some news for you.... This from a Website Haskap berries only grow in North America, Japan and Russia. Besides having three times the antioxidant levels of wild blueberries, they also have more vitamin C than an orange, and are ready to harvest two weeks before strawberries. "And, at the end of the day, they taste good," said Cassells, adding haskaps tasted like a cross between a blueberry and a raspberry. They are sold mainly in Japan, where they're prized for helping maintain eternal youth. Haskaps sell $30 per 500 grams and are given as high-end gifts, either as a wine or jam. DkHaas--I REALLY like those blue ombre curtains! Much softer but same idea as the bold navy/white stripe. And of course, mdln, I am not going to go out and buy what I want without consulting her! I probably won't show her this whole thread, mostly because I can't buy/replicate every thing that is on it, but I will DEFINITELY show her some of the ideas/color combos that have been presented! She has already seen some of the ideas--some of which she said, "NO WAY" to and some she was more into. She's pretty head strong--she knows what she likes and dislikes. lol We are both putting this room together, but I am the one paying for it, and with that comes "some say" within reason. :) HavingFun, you are right--I would not have thought to look on Amazon unless I knew something specific I wanted. I am glad to hear you say that the quality is not bad--that is something I would have been worried about.

Mudflapper, any news on how the bushes do this fruiting season would be greatly appreciated.

Joberry, hopefully honeyberries like Ohio soil better than my blueberries do!

My Blue Belle and Berry Blue are covered with flower buds. One or two blossoms have opened. I have four other varieties that are too small yet for blossoms. Last year I had two berries. I ate one and my friend ate the other. From that tiny taste, I would say they tasted like a cross between blueberry and raspberry. Northwoodswis
