What's happening to my Cucumber and Zucchini plants?

What's going on with these plants? The first one is a zucchini plant and the second is a cucumber. Any recommendations on what to do about it?

Yes, I have checked for SVB. I don't have any SVB on these zucchini plants, but I do have some on others that I just noticed today.

The zucchini leaves seem to get bumpy spotted and curl up and die. The cucumber leaves seem to get dried up, crinkly, and have holes in them. Perhaps holes are from japanese beetles but what about the dried up leaves? Is it a disease or just dried up? Should I pull them out so they don't affect the other healthy ones?

The Sweet Dumpling squash I am just worried about it having flower buds even though the plant is so small still... For the cucumbers, I have two pots with 4 that germinated in one (which is the one in the photo) and 3 that germinated in the other. I was always planning in thinning it to two in each pot. I think I will let it grow a little more and thin to the healthiest ones. Bejay, both zucchinis are the same variety...just in different sized pots. At lay I hope they are the same! Be11me, the zucchini plant in the 30 gallon pot is the same pot that had my zucchini that was decimated by the aphids. That was a Costata Romanesco variety. For some reason it wouldn't grow past the first couple true leaves... the aphids got to it by the second week. The Tondo Scuro di Piacenza zucchini that are growing in those photos were fertilized with a pelleted fertilizer for tomatoes, bat guano, and a seaweed fertilizer... These grew to the size in those photos in about 15 days from germination. I was shocked at how fast they grew. I only had the pelleted tomato fertilizer for the CR zucchini plants that ended up not growing much after it got its first two true leaves ...then dying (one of them from the aphids.) So I guess they needed to be fertilized more and that is why they got stressed. I am growing new CR in different pots now..but they just germinated the other day.

"Daily watering" is almost always over-watering. Add rain and it definitely becomes too much water. But in this case i suspect lack of any nutrients is the main issue. They need to be fed. All plants need to be fed something and in containers it needs to be fed regularly.. I would normally recommend one of the many organic liquid fertilizers available but in order to recover from the excess water, a granular one would work better this time. There are probably 35-40 different organic granular fertilizers available so it all depends on what you can find locally. Any of the big box stores like Walmart, Home depot, Lowe's etc sell them, so do most nurseries. Follow the label directions for amount and frequency of application. Dave.

My cucumbers and squash/zucchini plants get this. It's mildew...are there sort of white spots on them too? That was my first thought when I saw this picture. Also, yellow leaves mean over watering...brown leaves mean not enough water. Perhaps you over watered too.

I'm just trying to give them better choices for flowers, that's why I let the broccoli bolt, they'll go after it and leave the tomato blooms alone for now. I need to plant more pentas in the garden too, and make sure it's well enough away from the tomatos to not be affected when I spray the tomatoes. Squash is another story, hard to keep the bees away from it. If I see another die-off after using the spinosad I'll probably quit growing squash, and only grow greenhouse cucumbers inside the pool cage since a few moths will still get to them, but I can keep the bees out and still spray.... At any point the moths lay their eggs in the new buds of cukes/zukes and when the worms migrate down to the leaves they are so small you can't see them until they gain some size, so you can selectively just spray the BUDS every week and try to stay away from the flowers. It is normal for old zucchini leaves to yellow up and die, but it doesn't seem like this is the problem your having.

It's hard to say what's going on here, for sure you are having some kind of bug problem. What I'm not sure is if the bugs are causing the leaves to die or if it is a combination of bug and some kind of disease. Also how's the drainage in those tubs? If your zucchini are sitting in water constantly they will die.

If it were me I would remove all the dead foilage, and throw it in a garbage bag. If there's any dead leaves on the ground pick them up also and throw them away. Then go to the store and buy some habernero peppers or any hot chiles. Pick up some garlic too. Cut up or mash up in a processor and throw the contents into an empty milk jug. Fill the milk jug with 10% skim milk and the rest water. Throw the cap on it and sit it outside and let it sit for a day. Then spray your leaves with this solution. This should help treat any fungal disease if there is any and also keep the pests away. You will have to re-apply when it rains or if you splash it off when watering.

Both plants look generally healthy, and I don't see no disease. We are into the later part of the summer now! For zucchini, I suspect that you might have let it overly dried out during the hot days resulting leaves damages. For cucumber, look like some leaves had been damaged by beattles, small spiny bright yellow bugs that chew on leaves that cause burning spots. Try turn over leaves and look for bright yellow little bugs. Sqush them all whenever you see any. These bugs can also attack zucchini and cause burned leaves also.
