Who uses Immunox for veggies?

Using Immunox on cucumbers and tomatoes was mentioned on another post. So I would like to know if you use it and think it is safe? After all, it is a systemic, which means it must get into the fruit also.

Well, I was the one who mentioned it.

It's widely used by the people over on the fruits forum. The most common use is against scab, which is mostly done before the fruits form. I'm not sure it's going to get into the fruit under those circumstances, as opposed to being sprayed directly on the fruit.

This would be a matter for more expert persons to discuss.

It has a low toxicity rate, but some people shy away from it's use.

It used to be 1ppm allowable, but those limits have been gone for 13-ish years now. It's now crop specific levels.

That said, if you eat non-organic grapes, strawberries, asparagus, or drink wine...you're most likely getting your fill of it.

Grapes, raisins, and wine are especially high in it...10-20x the old "acceptable level."

Animal tests have established you'd need to ingest rather extreme levels you won't get from a normal diet for toxicity/harm...both from intense 1-time exposure and long-term (3-24 months) exposure.

Long story short...it's not much of a concern when used properly, but infant to 6 year olds might want to avoid a lot of constant exposure...even then it's not a high danger, just a concern.

You want straight myclobutanyl, but some formulations are only about how it's suspeneded (liquid or powder)which wouldn't be an issue as far as efficacy but powder is harder to deal with. Don't the sources provide info on what the formulas are labeled for?

Yeah...in fact it states right on the bag to not apply when temps exceed 80F. It also can injure three types of apple also, I believe being Jonathan, Golden Del. and maybe Macintosh. I've never had any chemical burn or really any issues with it whatsoever. In fact, before knowing about the temp limit I have sprayed it probably 30-40 times in temps way exceeding 80 with heavy mixes and also never had an issue, although I certainly no longer do that. That is another reason I started using immunox so that I'd have a fungicide I could use beyond early June. It also says on the bag it can in some cases cause injury to Concord grape and species of it. Before knowing this (yes, I really should read all the instructions first) I had always sprayed all my grapes including concord and seedless concord with it. Again...never ever had any negative effects. I still spray all my grapes with it religously because quite frankly my grapes look better than those I've seen where other fungicides are used. I basically operated on the idea that I'd tank mix sulfur with my insecticide sprays regularly and if something cropped up I'd identify it and get a different (if necessary)spray to target it. I'll probably pick up some MFF, I hear alot of good things about it. I wonder what it's shelf life is?

Hey Bernie, I spent yesterday in the garden since we were at ECHO Saturday, then read GW post last night. I'll read email tonight when I get home. I'll try to get the Nutricote but can't guarantee that one since I'm not planning a trip to Sarasota, it will depend on if Cypress Creek has it in stock or can get it this week...fines won't be a problem. Finishing the harvesting from the Winter/Early Spring garden, what a banner year. Been in the 90's the last few days. Spring garden is well on its ways, as well as the Summer garden. Just learned to try the Rain Gutter Growing system. Got 36 5 gal buckets growing using the (4 88 ft rain gutters hold 9 5 gal buckets. Eric on the Hot Pepper forum was very generous with having a free seeds give away for us Hot Pepper fans. We are about to start harvesting our Garlic, the scapes have been great to enjoy. Always looking for others to like to share seeds ect. Any other Ca foothills growers here? Cheers to all Donald

Hmmm last I read it wasn't approved for use on vegetables. It was originally developed for ornamentals only. Guess things have changed.

Still systemics on vegetables? Not something I'd be interested in for fruits much less for vegetables. Might as well just buy store produce.

Where does one draw the line? It isn't as if other, less toxic and non-systemic fungicides aren't available.

I eat grapes all the time and no, I don't buy organic. I wash them of course but I know that commercial growers must be spraying with something. I can't control these things but I can control what I spray in my own garden. I try and stay away from toxic. So far the only two things I have ever used on the veggies are a Neem oil product (for the squash) and a Daconil product (for the tomatoes).

How does it get into grapes? AFAIK, grapes at least here are not sprayed for a month or so before harvest.
