Everyone out here confines their dogs to their own yards except for one neighbor. Their dog runs willy nilly. He likes coming over here to poop his elephant-size, wormy logs and then chases and sometimes kills my chickens and guineas. We put a picket fence around the front yard to keep our dogs in, but the neighbor's dog goes through the meadow along the barbedwire fenceline and enters at the back of our property. He crosses through the Little Wood at the back of immediate yard near the house, and then doubles back down to the chicken pen run and elsewhere. I find his "markers". Sneaky b-----d! (He is an otherwise sweet pooch. It's not his fault that he is let to run loose and not taught any manners. His humans "think they own the joint", so they can do whatever they want...including their kids and dog, and they pretty much do! What a nuisance. So, I am going to try using a slingshot. I've used them before on other "strays". You shoot them in the rump with a tiny piece of gravel. It stings and they take off for home just a flyin'. It works great and doesn't do any permanent damage to the animal, but they learn not to come into your yard. I know that in other places of the country you can't do things like this without fearing a stupid lawsuit, but here in Okie, we can still defend our property if we need to do so in most cases. (But don't try this unless you can hit your mark. You could end up putting out an eye) Maybe sending them a big fat bill for the damaged property and animals he killed might work too. Dear Marcus, Nope, probably not. It is opportunistic by nature. **** I spent Saturday helping a friend who just moved plant bulbs around her house. There was an old rhubarb bed, which we dug up, refilled with manure, and replanted the healty roots, discarding old rotten ones. (Started a compost heap.) Brought over some herbs which went in above and between bulb groups. Found some strawberries in a side bed, and moved them out into the sun. Showed her and the kids what a rose hip is, and how to use it. Identified various edible plants (sorrel, salmonberries, etc.) and how to use them. This is another aspect of guerilla gardening.

Hello, I live along a creek in No.Cal. that runs into the county reservoir. We are in severe drought conditions. The creek dries as soon as rain stops. I have a long narrow 4 acres that completely parallel the creek 1 side & road the other. I have huge thickets of wild blackberry & massive amts. of poison oak & stinging nettle. 10 yrs. ago I had goats; otherwise I have left it all alone so wildlife has refuse. Now medically unemployable & have become more interested in hurgenkulture. I want to cut the dead oaks, over grown 50'Xmas trees and place them along the creek bed. I will being cutting the willow trees & bringing up to dry. If I spray brush be gone numerous times, when poison oak is dried & dead I lay the logs in piles over where p.o. was, cover with dried willow sticks & other dead sticks, compost, leaves, manure, dirt a few inches of top soil; will the poison oak grow through into my hugelkultur gardens. Ultimately my goal is to plant almost 1/10 mile of creekbed with these beds. They are drought resistant gardens for as the trees stumps hold water & release it they eliminate almost all watering. I plan to plant gardens most distant from the house with blueberry, currants, gooseberry and grapes. Then potatoes, onion, garlic, melons, squash and finally nearest gardens with tomato, peas,beans, and other daily veggies. Would it be best to use product that sterilizes creek bank soil killing poison oak, nettle & blackberry first? My husband is a firefighter & on the big wildland fires has gotten systemic poison oak. I always pray he doesn't get it in his lungs. Many of the firefighters have become highly sensitized. Thank you, Moni
