Your soil looks too heavy. In other words it is too dense and there isn't enough O2 getting to the roots.

The soil plants are usually bought in is fine for a while but it breaks down after a while and becomes too dense.

Orchid mix is fine for spathes but you need to mix it with regular soil, 50/50 or more unless you want to grow it in semi-hydroponics (ie. Hydro-culture) just orchid mix or LECA for S-H. You can keep Spathes very wet but they must have air getting to the roots.

The spots may be fungus, hard to say for sure from your photos. Re-pot it in a faster draining mix and cut off the worse of the leaves and spray the rest with a neem oil solution or some other fungicide, as new leaves start to grow cut off the rest of the damaged leaves.

Pics are a bit small, but it doesn't look too bad yet.

Best advice would be to re-pot your plant in a mix that is free-draining and durable.
This will allow you to water copiously, as this plant likes, without worrying about
the soil staying moist for excessive amounts of time.

Niko, the soil is way too heavy. Looks like standard, black, House Plant Potting Soil, 'Hyponex?' with the least bit of Perlite added.

How often do you water and which direction is window?

Aside from improper soil, your PL needs more light. Lack of sun is one reason new leaves are growing thinner and flimsy.

Light: PL's require indirect, bright light.
During, grey winter months, a sunnier location is necessary to keep it looking its best. Lack of proper light equals spindly foliage. Other problems arise when light is low and soil heavy.

Soil: There are several mediums to pot in, as long as it's 'well-draining.' Samples can be found here on GW.

Does the pot have drainage holes? If not, repot ASAP in a better mix, container with holes, then place in a bright light.

During winter months, soil should NOT stay constantly moist; it needs to dry between waterings.

You said your PL didn't like rain. I believe you set outdoors w/o acclimating to proper light conditions first. Leaves can burn on cloudy days..sun doesn't have to be shining brightly for this to happen.
If you had taken your PL out gradually, from very shady, then a step up to shade, leaves should have been fine.

Plants love being summered outdoors, but if placed in high light without first acclimating, leaves burn. Even sun-loving Cactus get sunburn, after being indoors half a year, then placed in direct sunlight.

PL's can be repotted year round, so, do a search, choose a well-draining mix, water throughly, and place in a bright window.

well first yes my PL is in store bought potting soil , i have feed it lets say around 4 or times since i got it with a small cap of osmocote every 4 months and only 2 times i have feed it with diluated half strentgh of 20-20-20 liquid fertlizer, i also once gave it a "drink of garlic water " read some where it was good for plants when they had litle insects in the soil, as it had one time ago ( litle centipe like insects that went in and out of the soil but they were not worms cause they were to fast to be them : ( or at least thats what i think .

the plant is used in my office where the temperature is around 22 or 23 celcius on my air conditioner ( read they liked and could adapt to cool areas and they are also good air cleaners so thats why i have it in my office; the lights are bright fluorecent top celiling lamps and the office is quite bright , so think the light is adequate ( is it ???? )

so if a 50-50 orchird mix is good for PL that means half orchird mix and half store bought soil ?

or should i buy a special type of soil for the PL , around the gardners place that sell plants the mayority all have bagged poting soil the ones come in 5 pounds or 15 pounds bags , i bought a 5 pound bag for the PL and some rubber plants i have, that being around a year and half ago i only gave it "lunching " of the same bag potting soil on top of the soil 2 times ( thought that would be helpfull for giving nutrients to the used soil ) , and yes the pot has various holes at the bottom and even i made 4 more to give it more air to the roots : ) , and i have noted that when its in my office it has passed around 3 weeks and its still wet not damp : ( , could it be that the soil is over saturated and the air condition in my office is not good for the actual soil its in now ????

some where i read leaves that look bad or unhealthy should be trimed and cut off , should i do this ? and is there a natural fungicide i can use on my PL if necesary ????

Nico. I thought you said you had the PL 6 months, sorry.

IMO, air conditioning isn't the best for tropicals, but what can you do? Make sure the air isn't aiming/hitting your plants.

Garlic water won't harm your plants as long as you don't add salt in the water. Salt will kill a plant. I sometimes spray with veggie water, especially after making sweet potatoes.
Garlic will deter some insects.

Where are you located, if you don't mind me asking.

Do you know anyone else who uses the packaged soil your Peace Lily is potted in? Does the bag list ingredients?

If it was my plant, I'd use a little of the bagged soil, (if the package says for indoor/house plants, orchid bark, Perlite, and tiny stones.

The temperature is okay. Maybe a bit too warm.

Your PL doesn't look bad, but it's best you change soil. Don't over-pot. Use a container 1-2 sizes larger than the root ball.
Peace Lily's do best when tight-fitting, they tend to flower more, too.

Yep, if leaves are more than half damaged, cut them from the stem closest to soil. They won't return to green.

For the time being, stop fertilizing. Water only when soil is almost dry. If soil is staying wet at the bottom, something is obstructing the holes, plus the current soil is too heavy. We've already covered that. Repot with above ingredients.

Apply fungicide only if your Peace Lily has fungi. There's no sense in adding chemicals if they're not needed.

When you repot, check roots. Do you know what to look for?

Tecnico - Just so you're not confused ..... SALT doesn't necessarily kill a plant. If fertilizer was plant food, we could accurately say that plants eat salt. All the nutrients plants get from the soil are taken up as salts. Too much salt CAN inhibit or prevent water uptake, causing the plant to suffer the effects or even die, and that is a very real possibility as the problem or part of the problem with your plant.

I think you could benefit significantly by reading the thread/recent discussion I linked to below. It explains what Josh referred to in his repotting suggestion, and gives the low-down on salts and other potential issues.

If you want to use the orchid mix, Use 1 part potting mix to 2 parts orchid mix. Water enough so that 10% to 25% of the water runs out of the bottom of the pot.

The "salts" everyone here is talking about are the minerals in the water and fertilizers, not necessarily sodium chloride (table salt), which I think Toni is referring to. The minerals dissolved in your tap water as well as the substances in your fertilizers are chemically considered salts even though many are not what we think of as salt.

When you water in small amounts these salts build up in the grow mix and interfere with the plants physiological processes. By watering enough for the water to drain through, it gives time for some of those built up salts to dissolve back into the water and drain out of the bottom of the pot where it won't hurt your plant.

23C (about 73f) isn't too bad for your Spathe, not ideal but not too bad, it'll just grow slower but don't mist it at those temperatures because the water won't evaporate fast enough and can cause fungal or bacterial issues.

Dellis, yep, I was talking about table salt.

On another thread, 'as an experiment,' some people watered their house plants with veggie water. Problem is, they added salt, 'table salt' in the water with veggies. Results: House plants are no longer alive.

Dellis, the last few years, I've been searching/buying Urea-Free fertilizers. It's a little more money, of course.
Problem is, I use different fertilizers depending on plant. African Violet and flowering fertilizers w/o Urea is easily sought, but try finding a fertilizer for other plants. Impossible! Toni

The fertilizer that I use - the "one size fits all" ;-) that I've mentioned in e-mail -
is Foliage Pro 9-3-6 by Dyna Gro. Foliage Pro has no Urea nitrogen. It costs me $20 for 32 ounces.
With most houseplants, I use less than a teaspoon per gallon, especially during the Winter.

Actually, I have two bottles of Dyna Grow, 'one bloom, one AP,' plus several other types sitting on a shelf.

Josh, before spending more money, I really must use what I have now. Some were very costly..VF11, Jack's Classic, Hibiscus, etc.

hello sory for my delay in the response , thanks a lot for all your responses and data , well i was trying to find the bag of the soil that i had used on the lily and the ingredients are : COMPOST - PEAT MOSS and VERMICULITE is that good for the peace lily or should i not use this type of soil anymore on her ??????

ok went to home depot and one the guys in the garden center told me i should use scotts premium potting soil:( 0.07 - 0.01-0.03 ) for the peace lily and that it would help it live up again , have any of you used it for peace lily or rubber plants which i also plan to use it , would like your comments cause have read some mixed reviews on this product and havent still opened the bag in case have to take it back : ( , so would apreciate your comments / advice regarding this product for my PL : )
