When to plant raspberries and blueberries?

I just bought a raspberry bush at Lowes today, and I have a blueberry bush that I bought earlier and have been keeping inside. Is it too early to plant them outdoors?

The place where I'm thinking of putting raspberries has trees around it, with a big open patch of sky from about noon on. Will that be enough sunshine? The blueberry location will be shaded by the house until about noon, then it'll get full sun.

And do I need more than one raspberry bush to get fruit? This one is big enough to have flower buds on it. That would seem to indicate that I should get it outside fairly soon so the bees can get at it.

And yes, I know I have to get some netting for it. I have voracious birds and squirrels in my area. Not to mention yellow jackets.

Raspberries will do Ok with a few hours of mid-day sun. More sun would be better, of course. You do not need more than one raspberry bush for fruit. I don't hink you'll need netting for the raspberries. You will lose some fruit, but there should be plenty left, especially once the raspberry patch gets large. Raspberries spread pretty quickly.

I've grow some blueberries with partial sun and they have done great. You might need netting for blueberries.

I would move both bushes outside to let them get accustomed to outdoor temps and sunlight. After a week or two, during which you should protect them from frosty nights, you can plant outdoors. In general I wouldn't bring shrubs indoors - you're likely to get rapid but weak growth due to heat and poor light. Better to keep them outdoors where they may grow more slowly in the spring, but will produce growth better suited for life outdoors.

If you're planting northern highbush blueberries, they do not require cross pollination. Southern highbush and rabbiteyes do (at least I think). However, planting each cultivar in its own row will be plenty close for adequate cross pollination. Raspberries do not require cross pollination. Given the way they grow, I'd definitely plant each cultivar in its own row, or in a few years you'll have a big ole' mixed up mess.

Please be careful with the vinegar, it's a good way to kill plants and mess up your soil. First of all don't worry about the alkane water, worry about the PH of the soil. Blue Berries prefer and do best when the PH is 4.3. If your PH is normal, 6.5 just ad about a 1/4 cup od Sulfur around each plant. If your PH is close to 3, just add a little, 1/4 cup, of lime. Just be careful and don't over do it with these chemicals. After adjusting the PH check it a month later. Don't make the mistake that I made by over adjusting. My PH was 6.5 and I added 1/2 cup of 90% sulfur which dropped my PH to 3 so I had to ad lime to bring it back up. Please note that most manufacturers have changed their sulfur from 90% to 30% and still charge you the same price. Their purpose was to make more money, of course. Raspberries spread, so you don't really want them near anything else or you'll end up with raspberries in your veggie garden. Blueberries need an acidic soil, so you don't want anything near then that doesn't appreciate that. If you do raised beds the you shouldn't need to worry about the black walnuts.

Not sure they are pH compatible. Blueberries prefer pH around 5, whereas raspberries prefer around 6. Meeting in the middle might work, but would not be optimum for either. Also, nitrogen requirements are different. Blueberries prefer ammonium, and raspberries prefer nitrate. Blueberries are a finicky plant for conditions. I would keep them separate if possible, since the plants have different requirements in many ways.
