Awww Luke looks like my Larry cat. I love tabbies. Beautiful plant also. I've been eyeballing them for a while, but have yet to plunge into a 5 gallon pot, until I know how easy they are and how fast/ large they grow. 6 years gives me hope, I may just get one after all.

Mentha-- IME they're not too difficult to grow (though it would take some patience and attention to grow one as nice-looking as Karen's). They're tolerant of a pretty wide range of conditions, as long as they're not cold and soggy. Good drainage is a plus.

That's a beautiful plant. My present ZZ--the second, because I managed to kill the first one--came last year in a trade, and I am delighted that it has finally put out a nice vigorous new shoot, which is now about 3" long. I guess it will take years and years to grow one as magnificent as yours.

That's a real handsome tom. I have two cats, and I have been worried that they might nibble on the ZZ and get sick, so during the winter I have kept it (inconveniently) on a wide ledge between the kitchen sink and corner windows, where there is too much stuff for the cats to venture. Has Luke never been tempted by your plant? I am wondering if I could put the ZZ in a more accessible place. My cats do not seem to be attracted to anything in the yard other than true grass, but there is always a first.

Larry, I haven't posted in the Aroid forum in years. Although I like aroids, and did know that ZZ is one of them, I never thought of posting the picture there.

Biwako, of the four cats in my household Luke is actually the most likely to nibble at plants. Chelsea has no interest in nibbling, Peppermint and Bopper will go after grassy looking foliage. So I do have keep poisonous plants in areas that are inaccessible to them. My ZZ is normally in my home office, where the cats aren't allowed without supervision, and the door is closed when it's not in use. I placed it by the front door for the photograph, where the height of the doorknob could be a size reference. In this case Luke was hanging around the door because he wanted to go outside, and was too preoccupied to bother the plant.
