Augustina, your rootstock will define the size of your tree. So, pick varieties that do well in your area, then try to find those trees on more dwarfing rootstocks. Pumiselect is very dwarfing rootstock often used for peaches/nectarines/apricots/plums. I have two trees on Pumiselect, a Weeping Santa Rosa plum and a Blenheim apricot. The apricot is going into it's 3rd year in the ground, and it is still quite small. If you can't find trees on Pumiselect, then the next best choice would be Citation rootstock. So, I would find a nursery that has the option of putting their stone fruits on very dwarfing rootstocks, then pick a good variety of peach or necatarine for your area. They can adapt well to container culture, we have one forum member (fruitnut) who has done phenomenal things with container stone fruits. I believe most of his trees are on Citation. Patty S.

Could be a little overwatered. That's an easy fix. Didn't like the drips my landscaper put on the trees. Will swap them out for gph drips, which I much prefer. I can put them on 1, 2, 3 or 4 gph nozzles. I'll check down in the ground a wee bit and see if they're too wet. And just my luck - it's going to rain - a lot - tomorrow. The easiest would be a controlled release complete fertilizer or high nitrogen organic. But any other nitrogen source applied once a week would get things on track. If you go with a high salt fertilizer like 21-0-0, ammonium sulfate, It's safer to dissolve it before application at a rate of about one teaspoon per gallon. The highly soluable Miracle Grow products will green things up rapidly.

I have never gardened in the Willamette Valley, though I'm thinking seriously about doing so in a few years. However, I am interested in disease resistant plants in general. Last spring I heard someone from Dave Wilson Nursery speak. He said that the peach varieties that he himself has seen are Indian Free, Q-1-8, and Muir. My local nursery offered a multi-grafted tree from DW with those three cultivars. I didn't buy it because all three want more chill than this area usually has, but am considering doing so next year. The DW website also lists Frost as a resistant variety. I have no experience growing any of these and cannot speak from personal gardening experience. I planted a non-resistant peach with a lower chill requirement so I imagine I will have to be spraying copper to keep it healthy. Rosefolly
