Sweet Potato without Tuber when planted

I am just wondering if my sweet potato plant would grow its tuber. I actually bought the greens from an Asian market just to eat the tender leaves. Since I couldn't get the seed of the exact type that's tender enough for eating, I rooted one of the stem and then planted it into the ground a couple of months ago. Since i did not plant it starting with a seed, would this plant still grow the tuber?

Thanks
