Does anyone know about reptiles? Is anyone here? lol.

Our son, Michael has a 4-yr Iguana. Son got him, Iggy, as a baby. 5-6" tall. From head to tip of tail, Iggy stands just under 6' long.

April 7th, Mike decided to adopt a Bearded Dragon, Gambi. Gambi was about 3" long, a little guy.

The last time we measured Gam, he was exactly 6" long.

Now the problem. Saturday, June 9, Mike had both Iggy and Gambi out of their homes. Actually, Iggy's spends most of his time out of his house.

Mike trained Iggy. For a reptile he's very affectionte.

Anyway, Mike left the room about 20 mins. Before he left, Gambi was on the window screen..NO holes, whatsoever.

When Mike returned, Gambi was gone.

He's never done this before.

Mike spent hours and hours looking for him. In fact, dh and I helped.

Now, my question. (Image is very upsetting.) Would an Iguana eat a Bearded Dragon?

Iguanas are herbivores, but Iggy sometimes nibbled on a tiny piece of meat. Very rare.

Could Iggy have been jealous? Most people who don't have reptiles think they haven't any feelings, but they do.

When Mike was away, (month) I took care of Iggy. He was so happy when I went ib his room. He'd come to me, set his head on my lap to be rubbed. Just like a dog or cat.

Anyway, we're all upset about the entire episode. I feel so bad about the little guy. Mike is very depressed.

Even if the other thing didn't happen, he can't go on long w/o food and water.

As far as I know Iguanas are herbivores, so no!

Larry, you'd think Iguanas re herbivores, right? This guy, Iggy, eats everything..lol.
He enjoys McDonald's and Pizza Puffs, although he only gets a little..

This might work just as well and be a lot cheaper (29.00). A friend loaned me two of these, and they were great to use for raising lots of Pipevines before I got so overwhelmed with caterpillars. I kept Monarch butterflies in these until I could release them at one of the local Relay for Life meets. The Monarchs made it two weeks. I think your issue, being in Canada, will be a matter of the lizards will not be able to stay in the enclosure for a very long period of time. You mention that the lizards are crocodile monitors. They come from a very humid country with a nearly constant temp of 80F (27C). I would be concerned about maintaining healthy conditions for them. Having lived in Michigan for 7 years, I know that summer temps there were very inconsistent and I had to keep my temperate-climate box turtles indoors and away from windows for the most part. So it strikes me as off that you would want to build a very large and expensive enclosure (you do realize your dimensions are almost as big as a double-wide trailer?) that would rarely get used. I'm not trying to dissuade you from your project, I just hope you have given very careful thought to what it is you're attempting. It would be a shame to lose 3 young monitors that cost $1k+ each to pneumonia because it got too cold during the night. After taking health conditions into account, I would say your next goal would be finding a vine that will survive your winters. For the short amount of time the monitors will be in the enclosure, it won't matter how sturdy the vine is. Regardless of how the enclosure is built, once the winter winds start blowing, there WILL be drafts and cold spots that your babies will not enjoy one bit.

(Orginal answer - retracted: Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis). They can be brown colored when they are cool.) Actually, I take that back. Looking at its tail I can see a distinctive pattern. This is a young Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei), not a Green Anole.

Looks like one of the "whiptail" lizards. they hybridize with other whiptail species and are a hard group to identify. the Pai Whiptail is the easiest one to ID, because it has a bright blue throat and leg patches ... this one doesn't, so I have no idea what it is.

There's a reptile forum on the nature side. I don't know anything about iguanas to tell you. Did you ever find it?

Purple, unfortunately no. My son is devestated.
We turned every room, basement included, upsidedown.

After Iggy goes to reptile heaven, I pray son doesn't get anymore reptiles..
Don't get me wrong, Iggy is a sweetheart. He's upset because he likes sitting in our bedroom window..now that plants fill the shelves he's banned..
But, he's smart..he tries opening son's bedroom door..sticks his foot beneath the door..lol.

Another Bearded Dragon is okay, but not a reptile as large as a allegator. lol.

Awww! That's sad. Sorry to hear! This is the time of year when I want to catch some anoles and bring them in the house but I try to control myself. They're probably better-off outside.

Purple..yeah..Mike still talks about the little guy..We feel bad too.

The anole is adorable..such pretty colors. What do they eat?

I don't blame you for wanting to keep him inside..:)

I just miss seeing them when it's cold out, selfish notion I try to control. They eat BUGS! Any kind they can catch that will fit in their mouth, with probably a few exceptions I don't know about. They can catch flies in mid-air. One of my fav critters! They change colors from light green to dark olive-drab, almost brown but are different than chameleons. I thought the one above was doing an admirable job of trying to be purple!
