Do potato leaf tomatoes require different care?

New gardener. I understand that some varieties of tomatoes have leaves more like potato plants. I planted a few varieties about two weeks ago in cells outdoors, for fall crop (In Hot Texas, temps 90-100 and above). Most have germinated and appear to have the more rounded, non serrated leaves. However they seem to be growing very slowly. 7-10 days after germination, they still have very very small leaves (millimeters long rather than centimeters). There is only one set of leaves so far. Is this normal? Is there anything I should do differently? I was thinking of putting them in shade but was worried that in shade they may be attacked by pests more readily. Thanks for help.
