So. Cal Gardening Advice

I had a great winter & spring garden & most of my summer is doing well, although we are having bad luck in one of our boxes because a rat, possum or something else large is devouring our tomatoes. But, my other box of tomatoes is doing great. We planted (for summer) 3 zucchini & 1 crookneck squash in-ground, but a gopher has destroyed 2 of the 3 zucchini plants & whiteflies got the crookneck.

Our corn has dried up so we will be pulling that this weekend. Now we look around & see a whole lot of empty space that we would love to fill up. Temps have been steady around 95F here, so I'm not sure if now would be a good time to even attempt to plant anything.

Is there anything vegetable-wise that could be planted that is durable in heat & will provide into later summer? We have lots of peppers & tomatoes still so I don't think we need more. But I sure miss my lettuce, beans, corn, squash, etc. :(

Any tips on whether I can plant anything will be appreciated. I guess if I can hold out long enough I can just start my seedlings for winter next month & be prepared!
