It is pretty gross looking---sounds like a fun project you've got going on there. I collected these seeds from a local pumpkin patch. I also have turban squash, which is an unusual pumkin -like squash, kind of ugly and edible. Hi, I noticed you have " tomato, super sweet 100 " on your exchange list. Can you tell me if they are second generation and if so how much they mirror the F1? I have sugar pumpkin seeds that are F2 with excellent germ rates and the fruits are about 90 % of the what the F1 pumpkins looked like. I don't think you would be interested in them because they are unspectacular extraordinaire, lol. The nurseries around here don't have a market for cherry tomatoes and I'm sorta sick of paying out the nose for a few seeds in a packet. I'm really posting more for feedback on your tomato seeds than an actual trade. If you want to trade that's fine too , but don't feel bad for saying not interested. I don't know if you get into the smaller hardware stores like Ace Hardware, but a lot of time they have a good selection of bizarre novelty pumpkin seeds. Good luck in your garden :)

I just cut open a huge Costata Romanesque Zucchini that had been sitting outside in the sun and weather for about eight months without rotting, and there were several seeds starting to sprout right inside the squash, where it was still moist. So I guess the answer in they don't have to dry out first.

Jarrahdale pumpkins are actually supposed to taste awesome, according to most of the reviews I've read. If Jarrahdale is anything like Blue Doll, then it really does taste totally awesome, and is likely one of the best-tasting squash. Also, I would recommend baking it for good flavor (don't add anything, except maybe butter). It tastes awesome. My Blue Doll squash smelled fruity and like cucumbers. It tasted a lot like pie. There are some reasons why your Jarrahdale squash may not have tasted particularly nice. 1. It might have been fertilized with nitrogen too close to harvest time. 2. It's actually adapted for hot, dry areas (like deserts). I understand Indiana is pretty humid (I lived in southern Indiana once). It probably tastes different in wetter areas. The squash variety came from Australia. Dry-farmed produce generally has a more concentrated flavor. 3. There are different kinds of Jarrahdale pumpkins. Maybe they taste different, too. Johnny's Seed has an extra large variety, I believe.
