geographic tongue (GT) cure
Comments (8)Hi; I'm 53 and have had GT since I was in my twenties. Approximately 4 years ago, I found a cure. It works GREAT for me. I posted on another GT forum at Gardenweb and can't find it, so now I'm posting here. First, GT can be caused by a number of factors. I believe mine is all the dental work I've had done. I think I may have an underlying allergic reaction to all my dental work. B vitamins, zinc, and candida cures didn't do a thing for me. Just like many people on this forum, I took it upon myself to look for a cure. I found one medical report of GT being treated sucessfully with a topical solution of Retin-A. This is a liquid version, not the gel or cream. Although in the study I read (Google geographic tongue and retin A and you should pull up the name of the researcher and the journal it was published in), the strength they used was 0.10%, the strength I used was 0.05%. I apply it twice a day with a q-tip and then spit it out. Depending on the severity of the outbreak, it always clears up within 3-5 days. The first time I tried this treatment, my tongue felt smoother then I could ever remember it feeling. It's amazing. The last time I went in for a refill (the small bottle I get lasts me about 6 months), I was told the manufacturer had stopped producing it. Imagine how I felt. The next time I had an outbreak, I tried the gel and it didn't work. Eventually, I had the thought to try a compounding pharmacy. Hooray, they said they could make it. 3 to 5 days later, my tongue was perfectly smooth. OK, here's the downside. A 30 ml. bottle cost me close to $100. As the bottle lasts me 6 months, that's about $16 per month. I don't have insurance, but this treatment works so good and my tongue feels and looks so good, for me it's worth it. I can't believe I'm talking about how good my tongue looks, but it was embarassing to have someone make a comment about how my tongue looked when I was talking. The other thing is oral Retin-A is contraindicated during pregnancy. I'm a guy, so this one doesn't apply to me. This treatment works by speeding up the rate of cell division(this same way it works on the skin). I got the prescription for this from my dentist, although I suppose an MD could do the same thing. I hope this helps some people. Waking up with those white circles on my tongue and having it so sensitive to acidic foods and cofffee and chocolate was really annoying. So was having the sores move all over my tongue....See MoreGeographic Tongue III
Comments (44)Hello everyone! I'm so very excited to have finally discovered a remedy for GT! As I described in my previous post, certain foods such as coffee bean oil (in espresso and minimal processing coffees) and chocolate without a doubt bring on my GT. I believe that these foods compromise my immune system's ability to fight certain foreign invaders, particularly fungus on the tongue. How did I come to this conclusion? Because Nystatin Oral Suspension rinse works! It totally caught me by surprise, but in my desperation, I gave it a try. GT (in my case anyway) is a manifestation of a systemic defect. Nystatin takes care of the expression of the symptoms of a systemic problem. I was so focused on fixing the problem from the inside out (Vitamin B12 helped) and missed a huge part of the boat! Since I don't want to stay on Nystatin for the rest of my life, I began researching for mouth rinses that have anti-microbial activity. My adventure lead me to an alcohol free natural mouth rinse that contains herbs. It's called "PerioWash" by Nauture's Answer. I'm so excited about having gotten to the root of this problem. I hope the PerioWash will continue to work for years to come and not result in fungal resistance. I hope my discovery helps all of you as it has helped me. Ask your doctor for a prescription of Nystatin Oral Suspension rinse and see if your problem is a fungal one like mine was! I had read that Nystatin helped other people, but didn't believe and thought it was too far out. I finally experienced it for myself....See Morehow do I wash peppers off my hands?
Comments (131)I've tried many things over the years. Gloves(whether latex or nitrile offer "some" protection, but when you're processing superhots for hours, the capsaicin IS going to penetrate). I've tried butter, milk, oils, vinegar, soap...all with very limited cooling. But last year, I tried something different. I used to just deal with the limited "cooling," but the heat really wouldn't subside until overnight. I still don the nitrile gloves, but now I actually wash my hands with just plain white vinegar. BUT... I don't rinse or dry it off. Instant relief, but there's still "some" warmth. So, I'll do it again about 15 mins later. All pain/heat pretty much dissipates within an hour. My theory is that the capsaicin is not only on the surface of your skin, but has started to penetrate deeper layers. So, wash your hands with all the soap or oil you want...if you rinse it off, you haven't given it time to penetrate those other deeper layers. Comments (24)I'm not an MD or a Vet and have never played one on TV (or radio), but...don't people diagnosed with Lyme take antibiotics for *many* months??? Not necessarily. It depends on a number of things, including the duration of the illness and the number (and identity) of any co-infections. It's very hard to say if an individual is getting proper treatment. As for me, I could pinpoint the day my symptoms started (before I found the tick), and I thought, based on my reading, that there was a good chance the bacteria could be knocked out by a month of doxy on top of the 10 days of amoxicillin the doctor had already prescribed. So far so good, although I'm still nervous about the whole thing. If any symptoms come back, I'll have to resort to seeing an LLMD (Lyme-Literate MD). I would not look forward to that. There are no LLMDs in my area, so I'd have to travel--and probably pay quite a bit if s/he doesn't take Medicare....See Morerusty_blackhaw
