I am trying it in central pa but I am not expecting much. May get lucky some years and have extended warm weather,like last year.

They barely make it for me in Maryland so I doubt you will get tasty apples. I would put it in the hottest microclimate you can find, maybe that will speed it up enough.

A small commercial grower near me grows it and I sampled it 3 years ago after about an average season but out of storage and it was very good but on short seasons it doesn't make in in Z6 southeastern NY, even in full sun.

Dawn to dusk sun will probably have more affect than the slight advantage of a good microclimate I think- unless you're talking about a southern wall.

I guess I should have added I probably wouldnt have planted it if were not for me sharing with the deer. Part of my orchard plans are tailored around my hunting plans and I needed to add some late season food sources.

Pink Lady, needless to say, is the finest hybrid of all time. Kauffman's Fruit Farm at Bird in Hand, PA, grows gi-normous PL's--crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. They have an outstanding crop every year. Misterbaby.

I didn't order any Pink Lady trees because the apples are supposed to be very late. You just never know though, until you try it.

The weather each year will be different and some apples aren't harmed by frost. So you might get apples some years and not others. Or, you might find you get apples every year.

Apples respond differently to different locations. My trees bloom late and ripen earlier than they are supposed to. In someone else's backyard, they are going to behave differently.

Maybe a better late for hunting purposes would be Northern Spy, which I know drops its apples in the fall. It should be late enough for you but a reliable cropper- once it finally crops. Tough tree to train though. I don't know if PL drops its apples or holds them on tree but bet it's a sticker.

Where's Bird in H. PA? I'm very surprised they get good PL every year up that far north. Sure they did year before last when summer didn't come until Aug?

I had never heard of Bird in Hand, PA. Looks to be just outside of Lancaster in the southeastern corner of the state. Does anyone know the difference between Pink Lady Cripps Pink pp#7880 and Pink Lady Maslin cv pp#21412? Ordered one of each but couldnt find any description of the Maslin cv. Hman I think I have a Northern Spy on the way. Actually makes me happy to hear you think that PL will be a sticker.

Thanks for all the responses folks. A couple of things, first of all Bird in Hand is 4 hours away and at least one climate zone warmer than where I'm at in the mountains. Useful and interesting information but my situation isn't really that similar. As for my set up, I do happen to have almost dawn to dusk sunlight on my orchard and maybe I'll get lucky. I'm pushing 100 dwarf and semi-dwarf trees in my orchard and it's almost entirely a hobby set up so if I get quality Pink Ladies every 3rd or 4th year I'll be thrilled for something new to try.

Where are you gang? Im about 20 minutes southwest of state college so we may have similar growing conditions.

I'm up north in Potter County bucky. You're probably still a bit warmer and a week or two ahead of my conditions in the springtime.
