There are several ways of describing the strength of an acid solution. If the label says 50% sulfuric acid(V/V), it can be read as "50% sulfuric acid, by volume." If the label says 50% sulfuric acid(W/W), it can be read as "50% sulfuric acid, by weight." Referring to the periodic table, sodium has an atomic weight of 23, and chlorine has an atomic weight of 35.4. Since we know that the formula for table salt is NaCl, we can add 23 and 35.4 to get 58.4. A 1 Molar solution of sodium chloride has 58.4 grams of NaCl dissolved in one liter of water. If the label says 50% sulfuric acid, and that's all it says, you really don't know if the ingredients were measured by weight or by volume. One liter of concentrated sulfuric acid, added to 10 liters of water, would be labeled "10% sulfuric acid(V/V)." You will notice that there is some heat generated when mixing sulfuric acid with water. This is normal and expected. If you were to add one liter of sulfuric acid to one liter of water, the temperature might get high enough to melt a plastic container. However, when making up 10% sulfuric acid, the rise in temperature would be less than 35 degrees F.

I have some growing since late July early August in small cut off plastic drink bottles,where most of them were encased in gallon baggies,but the air went out of the bag too soon.The bottles are now in propagation trays with 7 inch domes purchased from a hydroponic store.About half out of 30-40 plants are still alive.One actually started growing flowers.Chippewa seems to be the hardiest. This is an excerpt from a poster on this forum:In a couple months,you should see roots filling the plastic soda bottles. Once you have a sufficient quantity of roots,you can transfer them to 1 gallon nursery pots. Acclimate these newly potted plants to full/mostly sun. During their dormant season,you can transfer these plants to the garden. If all goes well you will have producing blueberries in a couple of years. Your pots are probably not transparent,blueboy,but maybe slightly pull on the stem and if there is resistance,then there are most likely roots growing.Brady

SJN, I have white, yellow, & pink Angels trumpets (brugmansia). The cats helped me propagate the white one by jumping around and breaking a branch off, so I stuck it into a pot and it grew and actually flowered that same year. Every morning the 'cat herd' waits and begs at the sliding door to be let out into the screen-greenhouse so they can play and chew on the grass weeds. My one problem with growing corn is they think I planted the newly emerging corn as delicious grass just for them. Blueberries do super well in zone 9, I get loads of berries each year. In June or July I move the blueberry pots outdoors to get the summer full sun and they overwinter where it's cooler for the chill hour requirements. This also makes for more room for my fall plantings. Lou

I'm sorry to hear about your rabbiteyes - hope it warms up soon in your area! It's really been a long/cold winter (for Atlanta!) - getting to around 10 F for a few nights. It's been a pain since I grow everything (bushes and brambles) in containers... It's predicted to be below freezing again this weekend... hope my flowering plants will survive... I'm glad I bought these blueberries though - It's nice seeing something leaf and flower during the early spring. Hope you get some Chandler flowers soon!
