WANTED: Looking for seeds for our community toolshed

Hi everybody,

I'm posting a plea for anyone who might have seeds to spare. I'm part of a community of volunteers who run our very small city's toolshed (communitytoolshed.org) -- basically a lending library of tools for people who live here, to help people do yard projects that beauty our communities and feed people.

We have started having an annual plant and seed swap, and I'd be so appreciative of anyone who might have spare flower or vegetable seeds to share that I could make part of it. I can offer to send in return flower seeds I personally have excesses of this year, namely yellow and orange variegated marigolds, cardinal flower and gazanias.

Thanks for anything you can spare!

? Every family can order 6 packets of seeds once a month. Just have them click on free seeds then FREE SASE Seeds. There they can select 8 seeds, so they will be able to send 6 packets. The return envelope will need 2 stamps.

Thanks for the trades and the help in our community garden. To ymaddox, Charlie60, NancyPlants, FarnerGreg, mrs.b_in_wy your seeds will be on their way today, roper2008 return postage is headed your way. God bless you all! We STILL have some trades available and STILL need more help. It takes a lot to plant 1Ã¯Â¿Â½ acres and a good variety of veggies. Be sure to check out our initial post and if you have a surplus of seed and would like to trade or can send for SASBE to help the community outreach, please take a moment and respond. I have several varieties of beans, honeydew melon, yellow squash, basil and holy basil if you can send me a self addressed stamped bubble envelope and some of each of your seeds. Do you know what variety of wisteria you have? Some of it is very invasive here. Also check out The Garden Hoard. You send in a two stamped envelope and you get six packs of seeds. You need to pick out 8 kinds of seeds you want. The only thing is you might have to wait 3 months to get them!

Hello again, As I sit here with snow covering EVERYTHING, I look onward to getting my hands dirtier this year then ever before. Last year, Hells Kitchen Park went from a trashed public park, to an amazing green wonderland. We had many wonderful volunteers help weed, water, and clean the park. We need more this year to help maintain and improve upon the work we began the year before. Once again we need help from our fellow gardeners. Any donations would be helpful in any kind. If you cant lend a hand, then kick in a buck, or give us your old work gloves. Anything and everything helps. This year, the neighborhood should look forward to our FIRST bake sale and many other wonderful events. Thanks again for your help.-- In 2009, a group in my community gained permission to rehabilitate the planting beds for our community children's park, The Hells Kitchen Park, in NYC. The city has no money to help us with this but is desperate for our assistance. We are looking for donations of plants for us to plant in the garden beds of Hells Kitchen Park (located on 47th St and 10th Ave in NYC). We are looking for any perennials, or seeds that you can spare. We have over 8 beds that need plantings. We also need volunteers. So, if youre in the city of NY and want to help out, send me a message. Any donations of tools, plants, seeds, your time, would be appreciated. Your members can learn how to start them at home before planting times and learn from their mistakes.

The packets are in those small zip-lock bags so they will be able to save them if they start saving seeds to share. I just place a piece of paper inside the bag with the ID for each so the bags get used more than once.

Over on the Wintersowing forum we have an annual Newbie Seed Give-away that one very dedicated poster organizes on her own. It's called the Newbie Seed Project and it's done by Bakemom (Karen). If anyone from your group sends in an envelope, mailing address and stamps, she'll send back a package of 15 or more types of seeds. She'd welcome the donation of whatever seeds you have to spare, and she turns them around and gives them to others. She is accepting seeds donations at this point, and will start accepting requests sometime soon. She sends out whatever she has and doesn't take any requests for specific seeds because she sends out to over 300 people each year. MIght be just what your group could use. Wintersowing is a great method to check out, too, by the way.

If you would send me your address I will get out a goody bag of seeds for you and your organization. I have an abundance of seeds thanks to all the wonderful gardeners in GW. It will include veggies and ornamentals. Thanks and Be Well
