I decide a graft is dead when it shows signs of dessication in the form of longitutinal lines along the length of the scion. Shriveled up, in short.The green is a good sign. I don't know when a graft heals because I leave the parafilm on until it practically falls off by itself- months, usually. Good luck, M

Last year I took cuttings as soon as 28 days, and as long as 87 days, so it greatly depends on the variety. Cuttings meant that the sprout had grown 3 full sets of leaves, so obviously there were signs of life long before that. Once in pots under lighting with some watering, you should see signs of life in a week to 10 days for most...but some may appear lifeless for weeks. Patience is a virtue. As far as depth, I've always thought of it as the distance to the crown. Not that it makes a huge difference, as the crown shouldn't be far away from the side of the tuber. If you're placing them tip down (e.g. standing up on their ends with the crown up) then you don't even need to bury the tuber. Again, last year, most of my cuttings were taken from tubers whose crown was completely out of the soil. Cheers, Russ

Hi Katrina, I have never done grafting, but have received several plants from Florida Colors with new grafts. Says to keep in shade a week or so, but is a rooted cutting.. Some have had tape on, some mostly in that area of grafting has total rubberbands around the area. says to keep in shade, weeek or so. then out in morning light. The heat will make the rubberband dissolve and fall off. I don't know anything about the tape.. but is a rubberband, round and round and round protecting the graft. Some on here do grafting would feel better if they came in and advised you. Karen B.
