A friend gave me 3 Shasta daisies she bought 3 years ago. When she got them they were babies and were about 2 inches in diameter. She gave them to me this year because they have not grown at all. The roots are good, the little rosettes look healthy but nothing at all is happening with them. 2 are in the flower bed next to my cone flowers and have granular fertilizer, 1 is in a pot on the deck and I use liquid fertilizer. The cone flowers are thriving, the ShastaÂs are just sitting there. Anyone know whatÂs going on? When I was in Michigan, my Shastas grew like weeds but IÂm in Florida now and this is driving me nuts. In 3 years, these things haven't even grown a stem.

hey searching for buds.. is common to any plant you wish to cut back ... just a simple lesson for a newbie ... there is less fear.. if you can see what you are doing ... past that.. it was just a curiosity as to what the plant is.. because it looks nothing like the shasta daisy's my parents grew in the 60's and 70's .. nor me.. in the 80's and 90's .. that is not to say they havent come up with new versions.. but it is key to learning .. to actually know what plant you have ... link below to my recollection of a shasta daisy .... if you google the term .. that flower is a vast majority of the pix offered.. but there are others ... including some doubles ... google comes up with no pix on Margarita Darling - Darling Shasta Daisy .. and Darling is a dwarf.. which is nothing like yours ... whats that all about. ... at this point its simply a mystery .. but it is still daisy.. and the snipping rules hold ... somewhere back down the line.. your plant started as a seed ... and it is not out of the ordinary.. that you might have some weird mutant.. no matter what the tag says ... enjoy it ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

I agree. Daisies love sun and the more the better. In fact I just moved a bunch of "Becky" to another part of my garden over the weekend. I always move plants in the summer - if I waited until fall I'd never make room for anything else. That goes against most gardening advice, and it's a little more work, but I have pretty good success as long as it's not going to be obscenely hot or dry for a long period of time. Keep your eye on the weather forecasts and try to time it just before a rainy period. When you dig your new hole and put in the plant, fill it with water before you pile more dirt on top. That helps keep the roots moist. You have to be sure to keep them well watered (that means every day) until they start to perk up. And tie them up if they start to droop. I've got so many daisies I'm willing to take the risk. But if you're not, then wait until the weather cools a bit.

LOL... that is funny, funnthsun! What made me notice Banana Cream was my love for those little annual marguerite daisies which are pale yellow. I saw a picture of BC and thought it would be the answer. How disappointing that they're not all they're cracked up to be!! Wow I do like the look of Broadway Lights too. I've never seen those in the nurseries here in Ontario either. There's just something about daisies that makes one happy. Probably like a comfort food, for many of us, daisies were the first flowers we were made aware of, as children making daisy chains in the meadows. Fast forward to today where I see two ten-year olds in the park, talking to each other on their iPhones, lol. Oh man, I can't believe how long some of us have been here. 11 years for me! No wonder my husband thinks I'm having an affair with someone called Pete Moss or Veronica Speedwell...
