No problem, all the fruit on your list will handle your temps just fine. They can be grown in much colder areas than yours. The ones most vulnerable to frost are the apricots, as a late frost can kill the blooms in the spring. I would plant them up from the bottom of the slope because that is were the frost will collect.

Western Washington is very mild compared to much of the country. A week in the 20s, whether that's highs or lows, is nothing to worry about for the crops you mention.

What is more important for your sanity, rather than the trees, is how late it freezes in the spring. This is what ruins more fruit crops than anything. What has been your last freeze this year? Do you expect another freeze? If you don't drop much below freezing after this time of year, go for it and expect good success.

Thanks for the answers from both Fruitnut and backyardener. This is reassuring. Normally most danger of frost is gone by now but the weatherman just predicted that we would get snow down to about 1000 ft. I am sitting at 960 ft. Can't complain though considering the very nice winter we had this year.

The major fruit-growing region here is on the east side of Oregon/Washington Cascade Range, and winter temperatures are much colder there. The blossom time freezes are a concern, though. See if any of the fruit trees are offered in later-blooming varieties.

You might want to go light on the apricots, they are a tough crop on the west side of OR/WA.

Check out Raintree Nursery. They are in western WA and sell high quality stock. Many varieties of fruits for that area. Puget Gold, Harglow, and Westley are recommended apricots for western WA. You might also try Hunza and Tomcot. Hunza blooms very late. Tomcot is a very dependable cot all across the country.

Call them if you are in doubt. They can set you up with varieties of fruit that will do well in your area.

Thanks fruitnut. I'll check them out soon. I was just looking for some fruit trees online and have found that none of the popular nurseries will ship to Oregon or Washington. Can you or anyone else tell me why this is? My only guess is that the state is protecting the future of the local nurseries.

It is to prevent the spread of disease. Washington state has a pretty substantial fruit industry and they don't want pests imported from out of state. I go through many of the same issues here in Idaho, stock from out of state has to be certified.

I agree with fruitnut, Raintree is probably your best bet.

Raintree has an online store as well as a "Brick and Mortar" store. You can call them or email them to see if they can recommend good varieties for you. I second fruitnut's recommendations of Puget Gold and Tomcot apricots. I have heard that they produce well in your region.

Thanks for the link ashleysf. This place is in Morton Wa. which is only an hour drive from home and very near one of my favorite lakes. Next time I go fishing I will have to stop in and check it out.

I have been there several times, it's a nice drive. Some varieties sell out fast, you may want to get there before fishing season!
