Nice job with the peas. I got a late start on mine. They're just starting to grow pods. I don't know how they will do in the heat.

What else to you grow in your garden?

I got off to a rough start with all the rain and slugs. I have been picking zucchini and summer squash for a month. They've already taken over the garden. I picked a few cucumbers so far. 3 small cauliflowers heads picked so far. I have a couple left to pick before I replant for fall. The butternut squash are growing nice. Peppers are growing ok, I think. Beets and carrots have been slow, cosidering the rain we've had. Pumpkins are starting to swell. Only 2 so far though.

Lettuce, parsley, and celery have been loving all of this rain!

Strangely enough, the herbs that usually love dry conditions are going like crazy. Tons of rosemary, thyme and oregano.

Got a few peppers yesterday too.

I picked spinach for a long time before it croaked. I'm still picking spring lettuce - it's starting to bolt, but there's still plenty left to pick from. I've been getting zucchini for about 2-3 weeks now and I started picking small cucumbers last week. I harvested a handful of my supermarconi string beans yesterday, but I'll need a few more handfuls to have enough to serve. I'll probably be able to pick a few banana peppers this weekend as well.

Still no red tomatoes yet tho! And while my mini eggplants are flowering, no fruit has started to form yet.

I just picked my last head of green lettuce yesterday and had lots of peas. My cucumbers are going strong, I've had about 15 so far. My water bill is positive, too! I haven't had to water more than twice this season. Now, if I could just get some ripe tomatoes from the huge plants, I'd be very happy....and avoid the blight so many have suffered with their tomatoes.

Agree w everyone. Peas did well even afterthe bunnies did a job on them. Lettuce was fine. I have one Red Knight Pepper with five fruit on it. Have fifteen heirloom tomato varieties which were very slow to set fruit but now have nice, blemish free tomatoes on them. Prudens Purple, Kellogs Breakfast, and Delicious seem to be doing the best. Garlic crop was super except I found bulbs/tops maturing at different times this year. The early drying ones are going into the use right away jar. I have planted a second and third crop of bush and pole beans, radishes, and hope to replant peas annd lettuce for a fall crop after I get the potatoes out. Love the Baby Romaine lettuce, Little Gem. All of this in five 4 X 8 foot raised beds. Summer squash and zukes doing OK but some critter loves my yellow squash blossoms and nips them off neatly each day. Fish emulsion seems to keep them away for a day or two but my yeild is down. First three apples on my dwarf apple trees (3) planted a couple years ago. Been gardening for over 60 years and this has been among the toughest so far: may get better.Just so thankful that I have had nine wonderful retirement years to mess around in the garden. Just wish there were more hours in the day. Gardening does awaken the spirit and open your eyes.

My garden looks better than I have ever seen it! While, yes, the wet-weather diseases have caused a few issues (tomatoes lost some leaves, but are still producing), over all the garden is growing even better than before. The corn is HUGE. I have the largest onions I have ever grown. The garlic harvest was fantastic and the heads are larger than last year (which was also a good year). With the cool weather, a white runner bean is setting beans and I thought I'd have to wait until fall. My broccoli is still producing tons of good-quality side shoots. The beans are lush, lush, lush. The potato plants were also really, really large and the potatoes I've had from accidentally missed plants (from last year) have been very big. Plus, I've only watered once (and only the squash and sweet potatoes)!

I somehow ended up with the right balance this year. I wish everybody's gardens were doing as well, but it has been really tough for most people I know.

Well, the massive rains have meant more mosquitos.
But there's also more lightening bugs, to keep the kids happy!

I am in southern Vermont, and the rain has been nonstop, the soil soaked, and it's been cool. I have had and still have more sugar snap and snow peas than I can keep up with, and scads of pole beans. Already had one crop of broccoli, 2 months ago, another on the way, and my Brussel sprouts plants are just amazing.Tomatoes are huge now, with many flowers, potatoes doing fine, had spinach, lettuce, mustard greens.
Squash is yielding, but many plants drowned, an of course the mildew is all over them. Also stems at ground level are rotting.

It's so much better than last year. I am surprised, since almost every inch of my small garden has a plant in it.

Brassicas (broccoli and bok choy) have not bolted because we never got any real heatwaves. But that's all. Where I live, a cool summer is mostly bad news.

My wife has found a way to cope with the enormous amount of greens we are getting, specially radicchio which are on the bitter side until frost(I was busy and did not thin when I should have. We have about 40 lbs of thinnings now).

Basically she mixes bitter and non bitter greens (non bitter: collard, chard, beet, even some bolted lettuce), and cooks them with something savory (garlic, spices, and good stock). She simmers them, covered, for almost an hour, and then they go into the freezer. I just had breakfast with cherry tomatoes, two fried eggs, and a cup of greens, and it was great.

So we are still putting things in the freezer, but this year it is not tomatoes. Permanent changes to my gardening philosophy after this year: tomatoes under cover and on black plastic from now on, melons same as the tomatoes and on a very short leash (one more strike and they are out). Expand role of promoted summer crops: potatoes, beans, zucchini, cukes, chard. Eggplant, okra and peppers deader than Elvis. Runner beans perhaps?

In addition to various lettuces and the peas, I have carrots, peppers, beets, tomatoes, filet beans, beans for drying, spinach, chard, acorn, zucchini, summer and spaghetti squash, cukes, sweet potatoes, watermelon, corn, onions, leeks and potatoes this year. I wished I had planted brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower this year but it's tought to justify the space when I'm the only one who eats them.

All the warm weather crops are way behind and I'm praying for a late first frost date. I just picked my first tomato today, a Sungold cherry. The Walla Walla onions and leeks are larger than normal for this time of year but the my other onlions haven't bulbed up yet. Pepper plants are tiny and haven't set fruit yet. I planted the corn late but it seems to be making up for lost time. I alwasy start my corn indoors then transplant it out. It's one plant that cuts DTM time by starting indoors.

I'm having a similar experience with my herbs, they are all growing like crazy even the fickle Cilantro is enjoying this weather. Basil, rosemary flat leaf parsly, mint, lemopn balm, oregano and cilantro are all very happy right now.

Is this cold crop country club or what?
I am so happy to hear the positive side of all that rain and cool weather you folks have had.
It is surprising though that your herbs are doing well too. I think that you have good well drained soil and the herbs did not get water logged.

Here in Georgia, early on (May) we had alot of rain. That caused rot in my potatoes. I mean roting the tops not the root. But everything else did well. Then we have been having continuous heat, i.e. day highs mostly in mid 90s, and night lows around 70F, and no rain for weeks. Now we are getting a lot of rain again.
My lettuce familly crops were over and done my late may.
And summer squash by late June. Now I am picking melons. Cukes have been doing fine but the vine are getting old. I have fresh round of cukes coming up to last till frost.
I have a lot of gourds, ornamental, birdhous, swan, bottle..
They will stay on the vines till frost no matter what.

In another week or two, granted the weather cools off, I will get on with cool crops. I am ready for cooler less humid weather.

Have fun with cool weather up there. I miss New Englan summer. I lived in CT for over 10 years.

sounds like you have quite the garden.

I just picked another small head of cauliflower. I only have 2 left. I should have 3-5 cucumbers by tonight or tomorrow morning. Green beans are starting to swell up. I have a couple of peppers almost ready to pick. I don't know how with the cool weather we've had. I picked a couple of brussel sprouts Sunday and steamed them. They were delicious.

Yup I'm a veggie garden addict. I started fairly small and I keep adding every year. Been gardening for 40 years but only lived here about 16 so I still have room for expansion. Darn full time job gets in the way though. Tonight I picked about 1/2 a row of filet beans before for the skeeters almost carried me away. #1 son will have bean picking on his chore list for tomorrow.
