when can cool weather vegetables be grown?

I live in Boyne City Michigan; this is in the northern part of the lower peninsula. My gardening zone is 4 or 5 (I'm not sure which)

I am guessing that cool weather vegetables can be planted earlier than the recommend planting dates

for vegetables, herbs, etc. since they like cool weather.

For where I live, I've heard you should plant your stuff typically after or on Memorial day.

However I plan to start with cool weather vegetables and once they mature,

I will plant warm weather vegetables.

As a result, if possible I'd like to get a head start with growing cool weather vegetables earlier if possible.

The cool weather vegetables I plan to grow are these:

*Romaine lettuce

*Golden beet

*Japanese variety of turnip (matures earlier and is white)

*Sugar snap peas (whatever variety I plant will be a compact bush variety as I'll be doing container gardening)

*Baby spinach

I'd like to plant this stuff in beginning of May or April if possible. If I plant it then will it be too early?
