Comments (23)"ones commonly taken by people who think they're avoiding what you termed "these proven artificial complexes which we all know have side effects". eric, by the same token how many people see headache/pain medication on the shelf and assume it is completely safe? and yet many of these medications contain codeine which addictive, paracetamol which can cause liver damage and ibuprofen which can cause very serious damage to the stomach and intestine. the problem with your arguments is that all of them can be applied to proven medications as well. "The real problem involves people neglecting proven interventions (like diet, exercise and limiting alcohol intake) in favor of some magic pill that they are encouraged to believe will solve all their problems." exactly the same thing can be said for taking medications, many people use them this way instead of doing other things in conjunction. You can not stop people from trying to take the easy way out if that is how they approach their health, but to assume that this is the norm is not giving people credit for having the ability to take their health more seriously than that. e.g. if steph did not take her health seriously, she wouldnt bother with eating sensibly and exercise, vinegar may have been the component which tipped the scales for her. steph is simply doing what people do, whether it be medication or alternative therapy, she is reporting her own observations, just like I did with the vitamin c, that is how people determine whether something is working or not, by observation, the same way people observe changes in their body good or bad with regular medications. your interpretation of this is slanted though, if it's herbal or alternative, you automatically assume it doesnt work and that any improvement is due to other things....See MoreCider Vinegar for weight loss?
Comments (150)Just a bit of food for thought, the drug companies that are trying to get a "new" drug approved by the FDA are the same drug companies that are PAYING for that testing process. Quite frankly, I don't trust any of them. Plants were created for a purpose, many of them do have healing properties that those drug companies some people put so much stock in would go to any lengths to keep people from learning about or believing in. Tell me, what would happen if the world was to find out that ACV could help with Acid Reflux and/or chronic indigestion? *Grins* Exactly. They'd stop buying "the purple pill" and start buying ACV. Personally, I trust the products that God made before I'd trust those which are man made. ACV is made from apples. The "mother" mentioned in this thread are simply vital nutrients and minerals our bodies benefit from which are lost in the pasteurization process of the "grocery store" brands. ACV is acidic by nature, but when your body burns it, the ash created by the process of converting it to calories is "Base" in nature, which balances out the body's Ph. There ARE health benefits of ACV, many. But you'll never see a "clinical trial" of ACV. Why? Well think about it. Who pays the bills in a clinical trial? What drug company would want it proven clinically that ACV does the same thing as their "wonder pill?" Not to mention many prescription drugs are based after that which occurs naturally in nature. Personally, I have taken ACV for over 3 years now. I have gone from a jean size 24 to a jean size 8. But you must remember that no "weight loss" product, no exercise, nothing works overnight. It is a gradual process. My advice? If you're going to try ACV, then make a commitment to stay on it for at least 3 months. That's how long it took before I began to see results. The first thing I noticed was that my craving for junk food began to wane. I began to crave healthy food. I began to drink more water, I began to get full faster. I had more energy, I felt better. But I've also not been sick in 3 years. I've had kids with bad colds standing over me while I'm kneeling down at work and coughing right in my face, and not gotten sick. No stuffy noses, no sore throats, no flu. The only time I had a problem was when I stopped taking it for a few months. I didn't realize how much ACV doing for me until then. I was miserable, I just felt like crap. And within that 2 month time frame, I gradually began to go back to eating junk. Within a few weeks of going back on ACV, I felt much, much better. Most of the weight loss I experienced occurred during the first 6 months, mainly during a 2-3 month time frame. Within a few months, I'd noticed that my clothes were a bit big. 6 months after beginning, I went up and tried on clothes to find that I was a size 10. Concerned that there might be another reason for my weight loss I went to the doctor, and was told that I was in perfect......See MoreUsing Vinegar with the Mother
Comments (18)To update - I made two phone calls today. 1. To my local extension office 2. To the Bragg company My extension office said that as long as the vinegar is labeled 5% acidity - it is safe to use in BWB canning. She also said to use a recipe that calls for cider vinegar, not white vinegar. The Bragg company said their vinegar is safe to use in canning. It must be processed (BWB) according to the canning directions in the recipe - to kill the mother, ie. the bacteria. Cold pack - refrigerator or freezer pickles is NOT to be done because it does not destroy the mother. It doesn't matter if you shake the bottle first, pour off carefully or filter it. You can do it anyway you want. The important thing is to process it BWB. I think I would filter it for a clearer looking product.. I really want to see if Bragg's vinegar makes better tasting pickles. The bread 'n butter pickles I make never last very long. I usually make 4 or 5 batches and that's gone shortly after Christmas. The Bragg company also said it can be added to any cider vinegar to enhance it. So using it 1:1, with Heinz as David52 will do- is a good thing. Happy canning! -gloria...See MoreApple cider vinegar
Comments (51)I agree that many people tend to want a magic RX pill for everything. and often don't want to be active in managing their health with healthier lifestyle changes. However seeking out woo remedies or believing in the concept of good foods, bad foods super food pretty much the same type of thinking. There is one and only one cure for the common cold. Time. The vinegar is not magic. The magic is the hot drink (or really the steam from it) if you happen to like hot drinks. Honey is no more magical for soothing a throat than a lifesaver. It's sweet, it temporarily coats. So does a popsicle. I don't care for hot liquids as a rule so my body tends to crave spicy food when I'm ill. Maybe it helps to clear the sinuses or maybe I like it because my taste buds are dulled too much for bland foods. I don't overthink it. Unless I develope an infection the illness will go away in X number of day no matter what I do or don't do other than rest and stay hydrated. I'm sure not going to tell everyone that the spicy chili verde cured my cold. LOL...See Morerusty_blackhaw
