Diseased 'Stella D'Oro' with White Flakes of Something
Comments (8)Thanks, gardeners! I've been doing a little investigating after the suggestions above. I believe the culprit probably is aphids. I've attached a webpage that looks a lot like the problem I was seeing, only in my case it was much worse. I never even noticed the aphids themselves and I don't see any right now either, but the 'dandruff' definitely looked like what is pictured. Maybe the maple helped to aggravate the problem by sucking away water and nutrients, leaving some plants more susceptible. I do think its not a coincidence that the daylilies closest to the maple were the ones most effected. I've cleaned up all the dead foliage, and I'll try to be on top of this from now on. Thanks again. Here is a link that might be useful: aphids on daylilies...See Morethere are green flakes on my parsley. What is it?
Comments (20)I should have mentioned that neem is systemic only when applied to the root system. It is then carried up through the vascular system where it remains effective for a much longer time than when applied to the foliage. Castile soap, like other 'real soaps', are indeed made with lye. That is the most natural of the caustic ingredients required to make soap. Castile soaps use olive oil as the fat required for the soap making process, while other 'real' soaps use animal fat (lard or tallow), coconut oil, and/or others. The soap that I use contains olive oil and coconut oil. Lye does not make a good soap harsh. The amounts of good oils and the glycerin that is a natural by-product of the soap making process are what determines the kindness to our skin. The beauty of these natural soaps is that they don't contain some of the very questionable ingredients that the common soaps (which are nothing but detergents), shampoos including baby shampoo, and dish soaps contain....See More4x4 posts with paint chips flaking off.

Comments (113)I tried Retinal... I think, and Vanicream moisturizer. Mostly I forget the retinal. Am I spelling that right? Too lazy to get up and look. I like the moisture cream a lot and it was really cheap. I bought it for my arms with the crepe paper skin. That's better. I don't know about the retinal. In the meantime I bought a bunch of Neutrogena stuff and I like that. The eye cream might be working for those black bags under my eyes. Those are once a day which is good because I'm doing really well if I remember to do it every day. And the wrinkle stuff has the sun screen in it which was also another thing I didn't think about until I was outside. But every 80 minutes is a PITA. I wonder how the neutrogena wrinkle stuff with SPF 30 works all day? Doesn't seem like it would. So that's where I'm at. The driver's license picture is 20 days away. It has to look better than the last one....See Moreivyrose_1
