Thanks for the compliments. I thought the pic was kind of bad because it's out of focus, but I wasn't going to drag the tripod out in the garden. I found several adults while removing eggs and nymphs. The first one got away, but then I got better. :D Squishing didn't work, even though I broke my iron-clad rule about steping (letting alone stomping) in the beds. Although I did zap that first one with Neem before it got away. I don't know if that will kill it, but one can hope it slows it down or something. The rest I herded up a stem until I could knock them into a cup. Only the gourds were infected, and seemingly only one kind of gourd. (I planted a mix; I don't know what is what, it was just for fun.) Well, I guess I have something else to add to my morning patrols with the Soapy Cup of Death.

Def sounds like red spider mites. I just battled them myself. Had to cut down & throw away all my glads along the back of the house (and they were still blooming :( as well as columbines and a few other things. They got on some brugs, and I have been spraying every 3 days with hot soapy water, all over the plants. They squish very easily, so what I have been doing is spraying and then gently rubbing the tops and undersides of the leaves making sure they get squished and the whole surface is covered. Then rinsing a couple hours later. Seems to be working. They didnt seem to do any damage to any buds or blooms, just sucked the foliage real good and made it yellowish. I got scared my new brugs had Mosaic, but it turned out it was just the mites. Save the Sevin for harder to fight pests and just use the soapy water (dish deterg) for now. It's alot cheaper and it works. If I were you I would spray the plumies just as a precautionary measure. I have been spraying plants that arent affected yet..just in case. Good luck!

Is it alive or just an empty 'shell '? It looks like the shed exoskeleton of a cicada.....sort of. If it does not appear to be alive, perhaps you could remove it from the wall and take a better picture. If it turns out not to be a cicada skin, then we will need to know the size and location (state) of this little beast.

Thanks everyone. We are in Michigan. This is my first time seeing this type of bug in our house. It's usually 1-2 every day. Flour is good--- stored in an air tight container. I like the idea of checking with an entomology department. Perhaps I'll start there before contacting Orkin. I know Orkin will just want to come out and spray the dickens out of my house. At least now I know it's a beetle. I don't know anything about bugs!
