WANTED: acanthus mollis

Hello my old friends! Its been a while since I've traded or posted. I've had a bit of a rough time this year so far but I am starting to get back slowly. I am still looking for Acanthus Mollis seeds or plants. I will post at the plant exchange too.

I have all on my list only now I have 2007 seeds for the 2008 season. I have some 2004,2005,2006 seeds left too. I also have some new things like Red Hot Poker plant ( Kniphofia uvaria )seeds, my 3 year old plants finally bloomed this spring! Hooray! So I have LOTS of them.

Also have white fragrant Peony seeds! (Small amount so they are special)& Balloon flower, just picked yesterday, in Blue,white,pink,& purple.

plmk! will also do a few sase's if you want.

I will try to do an updated list soon. I have been very busy collecting seeds and not doing much of anything else. *** Also,I have tons of unidentified seeds from the botanical garden for the adventerous! *** :)

hey,so sorry. I guess they take away the old list if you don't sign on for a long time. Maybe its easier if you tell me what you want and I'll tell you what i have,ok?
It may take me a week or so to put up a new list as I forgot how to do it and will have to learn all over again,:)

Acanthus mollis is hardier than rated. I have even heard reports - though I'm not sure how reliable they are - that it is invasive. I live about 2 hours northwest of Toronto, between Lake Huron and Lake Ontario, so we don't get the mitigating lake effect. It is very cold here in winter. Acanthus mollis is definitely hardy here and will eventually form huge patches. I grow Acanthus spinosus. It was planted in November, and I did not see even a leaf the next year. After taking that first year off, it grew and has spread beautifully - one of the focal points of the garden with an exceptionally long bloom time, fantastic foliage and wonderful flowers. Mulching might be a good idea. We have a thick, deep, reliable snow cover.

Just make sure you really want this plant in the garden before you let one loose, as it is very difficult to get rid of once you have it. It can be a great plant, but tends to be late summer deciduous if you don't keep it well watered. In fact, once established it can pretty much survive just on winter rainfall, but won't look that good outside the rainy season as it starts to dry out. In my opinion, it looks best in light to deep shade, and should be cut back to the ground as the leaves start to yellow in summer. If you give it irrigation at this time, it will quickly send up new shoots. Any piece of the roots which are left in the ground when trying to remove it will start new plants, similar to Calla Lilies, so it can be very difficult to eliminate.

I would love some of the Acanthus Mollis. I have creeping thyme, and also juncus effusus(unicorn rush), and baby rhubarb. If none of these will, I WILL find something you like. Also have 2 smaller cherry trees and 2 smaller peach trees, and black walnuts or black walnut trees. Please let me know. I can come to you as my hubby works in Everett. I also have peach leaf bellflower ( small amount) and alot of Blue & Pink BalloonFlower seeds.Just harvested today!Plmk...
