Have helenium 'mardi Gras' for sase

I have a bazillion seeds for this plant and have noticed that there are a few threads where several people are wanting to grow it.

I don't have time to ask each one individual but if you see this, they are yours for postage. I think one stamp will do it, they are very small and can be sent in a regular envy with some padding.

Surprising, perenn.all, especially re the bloom time. Helenium is described here, at least, as a late-season perennial; late summer/early fall and maybe mid fall. That's been my experience in various gardens. Little 'The Bishop' does fit information in the literature (that it starts flowering a bit earlier than most other Helenium cultivars - in my experience, about two weeks before). My experience, as said, is that Helenium cultivars don't tend to last very many years without due attention, the single most important thing being watering. Location can obviously be a big factor in this regard. 'Sahin's Early Flowerer' has been noted as a Helenium cultivar which is more tolerant of dryness. 'Moerheim Beauty' (2 plants) only lasted about four years for me. That was in mixed perennial beds, albeit watered ones. Our Sahin's Early Flowerer (2 plants) has already lasted four years and is still going strong in mixed perennial beds. I don't find Sahin's Early Flowerer as long flowering as it was for Sahin who selected it in Holland (one comment: flowering beginning in June and "still going" on November 1). I'd say it does start to bloom, here, up to two weeks before most Helenium (which start blooming about mid-August). "Still going" might be a telling term. We could have some very largely spent Helenium with obvious dead bits and few flowers (and often some mildew) still present in our garden near the end of September, but they're cut down before then. The single exception: this year, 'Fuego' (2 plants - had them 2 years), which stared blooming in mid-August, is even now (September 27) still putting on a very reasonable show. Don't know the other Helenium. There should be more discussion on this site about how long which perennials should be expected to live (with proper care).

I don't pinch my Mardi Gras, it naturally gets three feet tall or a bit more. Yes, it is only the top most part that blooms. Hummm...it is really hard to say. Most roses over here have a ton of dieback, so many never reach their full potential. I looked online and double knockouts are said to get 3-4 feet around. That is cutting it close since that is about the same height as the Helenium. Since you don't get a lot of winter dieback you might expect the rose to get four feet, but again I am not one hundred percent sure. Sorry I couldn't give you any pat answer ;-( CMK

I have emailed everyone my addy BUT I saw a thread in the winter sowing section that says people aren't having luck with germinating this helenium.Lgslgs stated that she starts them in the summer months and has gotten germination.

I will fill all sase that are received but just wanted to give anyone the option of not sending for them.

Hello All,

I got an email this morning from Carol23 stating that the helenium packet that I sent her had all chaffe and no seeds. I'm assuming that the plant is sterile!

I have already sent out a handful of envies but will not be filling anymore. I WILL look at your seed wants list and substitute for a seed on your wish list if I can, If not, I would be happy to return your postage... I'm sorry for not checking first!
